Anyone else not eat Fast Food?

OP here...My definition of fast food is anyplace that you don't have a waitress so that would include Panera, Subway etc..

After starting to count calories I swore off Panera! So I guess for me we order pizza and woogie bears (pizza foldovers) maybe once or twice a month. But no other eating out except for the rare trip to Applebees.

Glad to read that I'm not alone in enjoying a homecooked meal...

Spin-off - do you buy a lot of frozen, processed food? Ie Stouffers meals, Lean cuisine etc?

We don't.

No, I don't buy a lot of frozen foods ie Stouffers, Lean Cuisine. In the summer we grill a couple of times a week to avoid the heat in the kitchen.
In the winter I use my crock pot for soups, stews, etc. We always have a Sunday dinner - roast chicken, roast beef, etc. I just got a griddler & am planning on using this a lot for dinners. I work full time & home cooked meals are great but I don't have a lot of time at night. The griddler helps with the timing because it cooks foods on both sides at once.

I'd like to say we don't, which I guess is true for the most part, but every few months we will have Chick-Fil-A for lunch if we need something super quick like on a road trip or something.

The only pre made stuff I buy for meals is sauce, like pasta sauce, bbq sauce, mustard, and ketchup. The rest we make ourselves, and we often tweak the sauces we buy.

Rarely. I only do Chick-Fil-A and an occasional roast beef JR from Arby's. My DH craves a Whopper every now and then.

Sometimes DD and I will do lunch at Panera or McAllister's but they're expensive and I'm always thinking about the money, lol.

I love cooking at home and I cook often. Now, I am cooking and freezing so that on my late nights at work, we'll have something instead of doing quick processed stuff or ordering pizza.

I try really hard not to eat fast food. I did really good for about eight months but then once this summer hit, I have been so crazy, that I have gone to Burger King or Wendys quite a few times. I hate it because I know how bad it is for me but it is just so darn convenient that after working a 12 hour day I just give in. So hopefully I will get back on track soon.

Oh and I know a man who eats Chick-Fil-A daily. 5 days a week...maybe some Sat. also. Not sure what he orders but he's not even overweight. If I did that, I'd look like a blimp.

We normally only eat fast food when we are traveling. When we have a long distance to go, we stop at McDonalds or something, eat, and keep moving.

There is one exception to this, though, and it's Chick-Fil-A. I am addicted to that place! We have a free-standing one about 10 miles away, and they are the nicest franchise owners...they do all kinds of great stuff for the customers, like Family Night, where everyone eats FREE. We probably ate at this particular Chick-Fil-A once a month this summer  With school starting, it's doubtful that we'll eat out that much anymore. I find it faster to prepare food at home, ahead of time, and feed my family at home.

I am surprised that so many people rarely eat fast food.

Besides our family, I don't really know anyone else who don't eat fast food. Our family decided to get healthy about 10 years ago and never looked back. I cook healthy meals every night even if I'm bone tired.

The only exception is when we drive from Toronto to WDW. We pretty much eat crap the whole drive there because we can't find anything else:guilty:

I personally don't consider places like great harvest, panera, or subway fast food.

We've got the mandatory nutrtion information here on the menu. Pretty eye opening. Face it, if it tastes good, it's bad for you.
Surprisingly, it is far easier to get a healthy meal at McDonalds than at Panera or Subway. Of course, the Panera or Subway taste a whole lot better because of all the fat and sodium in them.

Very rarely. Being a vegetarian, as previously stated, made that decision for me. If I need to grab something quick, most sandwich places have a veggie selection. I confess to a love of pizza though.

I eat it more than I would like. But my schedule is so nuts, sometimes I only have 'x' amount of time for a meal. I usually eat alot of Chik-Fil-A...

I completely disagree. A small Subway sandwich with lean turkey, ham or roast beef, no cheese or mayo and tons of fresh veggies is a very healthy option. Panera has wonderful soups, whole grain bread, fresh fruit, really good salads. McD's has come a long way by offering more choices, but still highly processed.

We eat fastfood sometimes as a snack. We will eat Wendy's for lunch. I am one of the few that just doesn't get the Panera thing. I love their bagels but as a dietician one told me, you might as well eat a snickers bar, due to all the white bread sugar and carbs. Sometimes things that seem healthy aren't.

AS far as cooking at home, I would rather do that than eat anywhere, I hate parting with my money unless it is a realy high end restaurant as a treat.

I am also strange in the fact that I (and neither did my mom)don't like crockpots. My mom would never own one and I don't like that taste that they give food. I cooked a roast once and my kids asked me what I did to mess up my usual roast.

It is hard because we have so many activities. DH has started doing all of the running around so I can stay home and cook. WE don't eat together but I least I made something home made.

I watched it. Is that a realistic view though? That guy ate every meal
for a couple of months at fast food joints.

Fast food, like ice cream, steak or soda is fine in moderation.

Is fast food healthy? No not at all.

Will a big mac and fries 2x a year kill me? Doubt it.

He ate every meal at McDonald's for a matter of a few weeks. The damage it did to his body, in so little time, even surprised the chemists and doctors. It's more of what is in that so called food - I don't want those saturated fats and chemicals in my body even 2x a year. Yuck!

I have to ask, but all those trips to Disney, you didn't ever eat any fast food, not even in the world?

As for processed frozen foods we only buy them at Trader Joe's and even then it is not to often. I make a lot of our meals and make enough to freeze into our own frozen dinners. In fact I did a lot of that last weekend because with school starting soon I do not want to get back into the habit of stopping for dinner instead of eating at home.

No, not really. I can count on one hand the amount of hamburgers I've eaten in all the years I've been vacationing at Disney. I have allergies/food sensitivities, so I can't eat processed stuff, also allergic to corn products, and I have to say, Americans like their corn products! Yikes! I do like fries (we make our own at home), and will eat those occassionally at WDW, if my sugar is low, and there is nothing else I can get to eat, as long as they aren't coated or crispy fries.

I honestly don't eat burgers, hot dogs, candy, pop, etc., It's funny because my family is in the restaurant business, so I know exactly what is in their food. I get custom made dishes with simple ingredients - very high quality Italian food, and we don't really eat it much either - it's been so long since we've had a restaurant pizza or pasta dish from there. We make our own food at home, and my dad cooks for us on the weekends. We eat out only at Disney (but we combine this with eating in our villa), and are very careful about what we eat.

I do still eat fast food, but we've cut back significantly. We use to go three times a week and now the past two weeks, we've gone once. That's a huge improvement. Eventually, I would like to cut it out completely. We even make our own pizza's at home and it's super easy with a bread machine.

I'm cooking at home now using Tiffany's blog - eat at home and the food is so good, I don't feel like going out.

I used to eat a lot more fast food than I do now. That was one of the changes I made in trying to lose weight.
