Anyone else not eat Fast Food?

No, not really. I can count on one hand the amount of hamburgers I've eaten in all the years I've been vacationing at Disney. I have allergies/food sensitivities, so I can't eat processed stuff. I do like fries (we make our own at home), and will eat those occassionally at WDW, if my sugar is low, and there is nothing else I can get to eat.

I honestly don't eat burgers, hot dogs, candy, pop, etc., Tiger

Oh man, I wish I didn't I love that stuff. I don't like fast food, but I still like my burgers and hot dogs on the grill.

I do have to say, that after a few days of eating at WDW, I am ready to slap some poor family and take their picnic lunch from them.

Sorry, I should clarify - hubby makes homemade burgers on the grill, with extra lean ground beef, and I eat those, because I need the protein. I don't eat them in restaurants though.

After a few days in Disney, a picnic lunch would be good, wouldn't it? LOL!

Tiger :)

i don't eat fast food myself, but once or twice a month, i'll buy DD12 a chicken sandwich and juice box from chick-fil-a for supper after ballet class.

I haven't had anything from places like McDonald's, BK, Wendy's, etc in years. I do get Subway on occasion and Panera every once in a while. There are also some small wrap shops around here that make good, healthy fast lunches but for the most part I make dinner at home or run to the supermarket on Monday to grab all my lunches for the week instead of getting food out. Not only is it more healthy but it is also cheaper...win, win.

fast food for us is normally reserved when we are coming home from a dog show and cannot leave the dogs in the hot car!!

I completely disagree. A small Subway sandwich with lean turkey, ham or roast beef, no cheese or mayo and tons of fresh veggies is a very healthy option. Panera has wonderful soups, whole grain bread, fresh fruit, really good salads. McD's has come a long way by offering more choices, but still highly processed.

That Subway turkey, ham or roast beef is far more processed than a burger at McDonalds.
I've had co-workers who were shocked to discovery how unhealthy their healthy choices are.

Fast food doesn't make you fat....

I use to eat nothing but fast food. Usually 2 $0.99 whoppers with cheese and a drink every night. Lunch was sometimes fast food, sometimes nothing. Then I got married. I started getting good healthy home cooked meals every night with the good healthy leftovers the following day for lunch. I gained about 50 pounds over the course of a few years.

It wasn't the food. It was the lack of exercise that I would get hanging out at the basketball hoop with the buddies. Got married, that stopped, started eating good food, and I gained weight.

I get a small fries from McDonald's once a month. Not sure why but I get a crazy hormonal craving for the fries and ketchup. Other than that I eat at BK probably twice a year. No subway or Panera. Dh is a health nut so no fast food at all for him.

If you're talking processed I agree but those sandwiches are way lower in fat and calories. Just ask Jared. ;)

All lunch meat is processed to one extent or another so you are right, it isn't the best choice one can make out of all possible choices. I would take, however, a Subway sandwich with only meat and veggies (I don't add any sauce, cheese, or oil) over a burger at McDonald's any day if I am deciding between those two options.

Oh, heck. Not me! I refused to see Supersize Me in fear it would turn me off.

Yet, I hear some of the Disboard police complaining that I am losing weight! How can that be?

Yes, I have lost nearly 30 pounds so far. And yes, I've really toned down my fast food eating. But, you'd be surprised what you can get. Both McDonald's and Burger King have grilled chicken options. I just ask for it mayo-free with small fries and a water or a diet soda. I also eat them strangely...I rip the top bun off using only a quarter-sized medallion for a finger-hold so I can eat it minus one bun.

But every once in a while, I do order Chicken McNuggets! Just not every week as I did previously.

I've been sitting here, trying to remember how this started, but years ago (maybe 4 years?), my oldest decided he never wanted to eat at a fast food place again. He had to have been 8 or 9 at the time. I thought, "Yeah, okay, sure."

Well...he's 12 and hasn't eaten anything from a fast food place since! I'm amazed at his resolve -- while we don't normally eat ff (no real reason; just never do), there are rare occasions where we'll be stuck out somewhere/traveling and starving and we'll go through a drive thru. He won't get anything, which amazes me.

At the beginning of this year, he began a free-range-arian lifestyle, and by golly he's stuck with that, too. He's even turned down his beloved NC BBQ. I'm amazed, to be honest!

OP here...My definition of fast food is anyplace that you don't have a waitress so that would include Panera, Subway etc..

After starting to count calories I swore off Panera! So I guess for me we order pizza and woogie bears (pizza foldovers) maybe once or twice a month. But no other eating out except for the rare trip to Applebees.

Glad to read that I'm not alone in enjoying a homecooked meal...

Spin-off - do you buy a lot of frozen, processed food? Ie Stouffers meals, Lean cuisine etc?

We don't.

No, I think that stuff tastes worse than fast food. And it seems like they're hiding MSG in everything these days!

http://www.msgmyth.com/hidename.htm

MSG is a migraine trigger for me, so I like to know exactly what's going into my food. It's easier if I just make it myself out of whole foods.

But McDonalds salads are good - just as long as I carefully read the label on the dressing package! Salads weren't an option when Supersize Me was made. He was eating burgers and fries every day, which is beyond gross.

True...portions and exercise definitely factor in!!

The only fast food I eat is the Veggie Delite with a little vinegerette at Subway.

We are off fast food right now- have been on paleo and processed food free since June 27th

I get crazy cravings for McDonalds, their fries and chicken nuggets mostly. If I eat it once the cravings just get worse!

And yes, I've seen Supersize Me! Don't ask me to explain why I still love McD's.

I also love Chick-Fil-A and wish I could convince myself I didn't. mmmmm waffle fries!

I used to eat sandwiches at Cosi years ago instead of FF until I counted the calories and it was actually worse for me than chicken nuggets, I could see that with Panera too.

I don't think eating a grilled chicken caesar salad at Mcdonalds is all that bad for me. It is a mixture of lettuce, a grilled chicken breast, grape tomatoes and a small amount of parmesan cheese. I think the entire thing has like 250-300 calories. I don't use salad dressing or croutons. I order unsweetened iced tea to drink .

I like Panera, but there are plenty of unhealthy choices there too. It is all about making the right choices.

Okay, I just looked it up and a grilled chicken caesar salad is 220 calories and has 6 grams of fat.

Over the past few years our family rarely eats at fast food places. I realize that this is not the norm. So where are my peeps that also would prefer to eat at home over fast food???

I love to eat out, just don't eat at fast food places. I cook a lot but do enjoy a nice meal out. Fast food pretty much yuck. I will eat the occasional Wendy's salad.

I try my best not to eat any fried food...fast food or otherwise (though my weakness is boneless buffalo wings and onion rings.) If I find myself out and starving where I can only go to a drive-through and have to eat in my car...then yeah, I do hit McDonalds. But I've taken to ordering a Chicken Nugget Happy Meal w/ Apple Dippers :)
