Leaving in 36 hours and hitting the road from Chicago to a stop just past Atlanta. We are leaving at 2:30am because we like to get the majority of the driving out of the way when roads are clear and we knoe we won't have to run the a/c. Sunday we are hitting the road by 4:00am so that we can get to WDW by 11:00am so we can catch the Bears/Bills game at the ESPN Club.

Are there any fellow travelers that do their best driving at night?

We are driving to Charlotte NC next weekend and driving through the night - just DH and myself, and we share the driving. When we get tired, we just pull off at the wonderful rest stops you great Americans have and get some zzzz's before continuing along. Mostly take turns for about 4 hours while the other has a nap. Less traffic, quiet and we like to get where we're going to and enjoy the daylight!
Have a safe trip!

I just made the run from Northeast CT to Orlando. We left at 10:18pm and were in Orlando at 7Pm the following night. It was great, no traffic at all.
The only hold up was a bad rain storm on the GA FL border. That slowed us down to about 40mph or less when we hit Jacksonville.
We stopped now and then to stretch, but, that was it.

If we drive we leave 3pm from chgo and drive straight thru 17 hours miss all traffic arrive in orlando 8 am ish, check in and get something to eat change into our bathing suites and sit by the pool and chill.......

My DW and I are driving down from NJ next September. We plan to leave around 2:00 AM to beat the rush hour traffic through DC. We will drive until mid afternoon stopping around Savannah, GA for the night. We will leave around 7:00 AM the next morning and arrive at WDW around noon. Can't wait! :Pinkbounc

We we used to drive we would leave about 9PM and switch drivers as needed. We would do a long stop at South of the Border, then continue from there.

I would leave earlier. The traffic was getting sort of heavy at around 4 am.

I would prefer to drive at night myself and did so this past Christmas driving to Florida.....left at midnight and got to VA at 10:00am, stopping for breakfast somewhere when daylight hit, this was from MA.

Where in MA? I was close to the MA/RI border and made NC by 7am.

When we used to drive we would leave NJ around 10-11 pm,and drive until we couldn't go anymore..just stopping for bathroom breaks and a quick bite to eat

DH, DS, DD and myself always leave around 11:30 pm from OH and drive straight through to Orlando. We stop to eat and stretch but other than that, he does all of the driving. It's always just been one of those things...part of our vacation is the drive.

DH has back problems and they are getting a little worse these days. We are hoping to be able to fly this June, but it just won't be the same without the drive through the night.

Back when we used to drive to Disney, 1200 miles one way, I used to drive straight through my self. Never let wife drive. We're talking 30 some years ago and there were a heck of alot less things on the road. We tried a driving trip a few years ago and even took the longer route from out home and it was a nightmare. Finally let the wife drive, we're in our 50's now, and she did the first stint and when she said it was my turn, around 9 pm, I said find a motel. Too many trucks on the road for me and they seem to gang up in the night, long convoys, and fly along.

I used to enjoy the drive but it has become to stressful with all the traffic and inconsiderate drivers on the road. Even stopping for the night doesn't help, day drivers are going to work and hopping on and off the super highways like bugs. You always have to be alert, and being alert for 20 some hours over 1200 miles of super highways is very tough and stressful. Night time used to be the best, get behind one semi and just go with the flow, used to be just us on the road and no one else. Also, the older you get, the harder it seems to see in the dark, not saying we're old but it isn't the same as when we were in our 30's.

I'm not a driver. My limit is around 5 hours after that I don't want to see the car for the rest of our vacation. When I did get a bug last year and was thinking about driving, my wife said, you are not the driving type, so after she talked some sense into me I realized that if I want to go to Disney, I have to fly. The problem is since 9/11 flying makes me a little uneasy. But hey it's Disney.

On a side note when I was a kid my father drove us to Disney on several occassions and we always left around 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning. It was fun that way. We drove from New York and it always took us 2 days.
