My over the stove microwave died on me yesterday, so I put in a home warranty claim. My dishwasher is getting close for me putting in a claim. It's not drying as well as it should.

Anyone else killing appliances being stuck at home?

No but our downstairs powder room toilet is leaking. We have hardwood floors down there, and I noticed two floorboards that come from the powder room into the foyer hall are buckling. We called a plumber 3 days ago, and he’s still not made it over here. Hopefully it’s something simple like the wax ring, and we caught it in time to prevent any major damage. The floors should flatten out once they dry. We’ll see.

We just replaced our fridge and stove almost a year ago but I worry about our 10 yr old dishwasher. It doesn't seem to be cleaning as well lately. Trying to do more handwashing throughout the day and only running it full in the evening to extend it's life.

I wounded an induction burner and am waiting for the part to be delivered so it can be revived.
Might have done in a circa 1980's food processor too but I need to look at it one more time before ordering a new bowl (the motor works fine).
The range is dead and has been since late last year. Not going to be replaced until the appraiser values the apt. and kitchen is remodeled.

Yup our ice cube maker stopped working and I think we need a new dishwasher. 😬

On top of that DS knocked a pill bottle out of the medicine cabinet into the toilet mid-flush so we had to have a plumber come out, it cost close to $500 to get it out.😱 At least he came out right away tho.

We had our dishwasher die a few months ago. It was just shy of 5 years old. They are not made to last much beyond that these days, according to the repair guy. He suggested just buying a new one, because the repair would have cost us 75% of the cost of a new one and he said once something goes, everything else is just a matter of time.

The ice maker in my Samsung side by side refrigerator is the bane of my existence. It is also 5 years old and still works, but literally EVERY DAY an ice cube gets stuck as the tray is being dumped and it stops up the whole mechanism. I have to constantly check to make sure it's clear or we run out of ice. I. Hate. It.

I've had no luck with ice makers. They all die on me.

do you find a home warranty to be good?

do you find a home warranty to be good?

Depends what's being fixed. And depends on the home warranty company. I have had both good and bad experiences. This is my first time using this home warranty company. I hope for the best.

I subscribe to a consumer advice magazine called ‘which’. It does reviews of household items, best buys, prices etc. I have been thinking of cancelling as I don’t bother to read the monthly magazine but I am convinced that the moment I cancel my subscription, every white good I own will breakdown and need replacing.

Bought a new refrigerator - we're retirees, so home most of the time anyway, but wouldn't have chosen to buy during our 'stay at home' time for the virus. Life @DLgal, we had a Samsung, but a two door, two drawer one, it's only 5 years old, but a year ago controls for ice broke, they wanted an arm and leg to fix it, so dh rigged it to only dispense cubed ice. Then a few weeks ago, I started noticing a scrunching sound when I opened the bottom freezer drawer - dh checked and the whole bottom underneath was a solid sheet of ice and growing!

Again, repairman said plugged drainage lines (2) - which they haven't yet fixed in new ones - again an arm and leg to fix, so we said no more. Put it in garage - a fairly new fridge, which I actually totally loved!! Decided to buy a GE 2 door, bottom drawer freezer from Lowes and really like it too. They said Samsung the worse of all - repairs all the time! Our last fridge, GE, was 20 yrs old and still going strong in garage (a little rusty & ugly tho). We let them take it.

Now worried about dishwasher and stove (GE). No problems with either, but both installed in our new home 19 years ago!! Now, we'll just stick with GE! ::yes:: I do have a front load Samsung washer that is doing just fine tho' - 6 yrs. old.

On another note, a lot of our neighbors have had to have emergency septic tank pumps - guess septic tanks are not made for 24/7 use with 5-6 people!!!!

No problems that can be attributed to staying home. We’re retired, so home a lot is routine.
Did get the freezer side of the side-by-side repaired yesterday. I can’t see how the auto defrost mechanism died from us being home.
I did use the at home time to replace a toilet . . . does that plumber mentioned up thread drive a Porsche? $500!? 😱 Tell the kid to put the lid down . . . no need to watch it work.😉

Stove and refrigerator both broke in last 12 months. They were about 8 years old and from when we bought the house new. They are those cheap "contractor bundles" you see in new and remodeled homes. Dishwasher is on its last leg and washer and dryer, while fine, are almost 10 years old.

Ouch, alot of dishwashers going kerplunk.

About 16ya we bought a dishwasher from the 'dented/damaged' area at Lowe's.
Bosch, stainless steel inside with a macerator.
$800 retail then, but was $300 because dented on foot panel. We called Bosch and they sent us a new free panel, lol.

It takes so much abuse and it runs as good as day 1. Very quiet (barely hear it) and you don't worry about scraping plates because of the macerator. Everything perfectly clean/dry and I pack that thing without rinsing the dishes. We've even moved it between 3 different homes. Trooper! Wish I aged as well.

Our upstairs bathroom sink has always dripped. The drip has turned into a stream. Of course the shut off valve under the sink is seized so I can't try to fix it myself and I don't want anyone else in my house right now. Ugh.

Nothing big, but my Kindle Paperwhite died 2-3 weeks ago, and last week my Keurig died. Can’t live without either, so thank goodness for Amazon

The valve that balances hot and cold water in the master bath shower has started sticking on the cold side. My wife proclaimed we needed a new water heater, yet I would shower after her and almost scald myself. Moving the handle from hot to cold back to hot seems to unstick it, but it will eventually need to be addressed.
Cars have been my issue. My 65 Mustang has started running acting up, then today we discovered the tailgate on my wife's SUV is not latching on one side so the interior lights won't shut off. And yesterday my wife scraped the side of our family/retirement (less than 2 year old) car on the mailbox. So it will need to go to the body shop. Our daughter did the same thing last year and I suspect it will cost us about the same $1,000 as she had to pay for her car. And the pillar molding on the driver's side of my car fell off yesterday, but I was able to fix that myself today.
I should mention my wife is still having to go into work at least 4 days a week. Her company's way of dealing with the pandemic is to give everyone one day off with per week most weeks to keep the number of people in the building as low as they can so she does need a functioning car. The Mustang

Yes, our dishwasher is making a loud noise, my Keurig is working really slow, our TV sometimes won't turn on unless we unplug it (and plug it back in) and yesterday my husband had the stove apart and had to order a part because the burner I use all the time wouldn't adjust to anything but High...I do think it's because we're home all the time.

I don't think my appliances are up to the daily abuse they're taking.
