Anyone else have PETITION circulators in their area?

Ay ay ay, everywhere you turn downtown someone has a clipboard asking you if you want to "sign a petition." I'm so tired of petitions!

I won't sign a single one either. No way will I sign something some average Joe on the street tells me about -- I have no idea if they are even explaining the proposals correctly. They are PAID circulators too, which makes me all the more leery.

My favorite is when they ask if you would like to sign in support of an "education initiative." Um yeah, building three casinos is not an education initiative in my book! I'm tired of them twisting it like that, but I guess that's the kind of crap they have to pull to get the casinos in here.

The only petition I was ever asked to sign since moving here was when my KKK of a neighbor wanted to keep "the colored family" from moving into a house down the street. That was nearly 11 years ago--yep, the 20th century, if you can believe it. I still can't. :sad2:

Not in a long time. We were trying to keep condos from being built behind our house. I guess it worked for awhile, after being in this house for 35 years, they just are now about finished with the condos.

What gets me, these condos are going from the low 700's and sit right next to a railroad track.

Ok I guess the rush is on...they need 115,000 sigs by July 7 for it to be on the ballot in November.

I can emphathize, Free4Life11. I live in downtown DC and I am constantly approached by people wanting me to sign petitions. It happened twice yesterday and it is bothersome.

If you want to drive them crazy - just agree with them totally and be willing to sign - "then add - it doesn't matter that I'm registered to vote in X state and live there does it?" If they are really creepy wand want to let you sign illegally then just tell them you were just checking and that you are now going to report them.

When I took the train to work (and I don't anymore...partly because of this), they would camp out in front of the station - alongside the homeless people looking for money. During the Democratic National Convention, the big controversy was the Boston Police on "strike". Every day I was accosted by these people. They started fights with the vendors outside the Fleet Center. They assaulted the contractors trying to do their jobs. I had a heated battle with one jerk who wouldn't let me by until I took a flier. I suppose it would have been easier to take the flier, but not when he was being hostile. He stood right in front of me. I told him that I don't even live in this state....I can't help him. Plus, I don't care. I have my own problems and them getting an 18% pay raise wasn't really a concern of mine. I finally shoved him aside....I guess hitting a woman doesn't play well on the 5 o'clock news so he shouted some obscenities at me and made a fool of himself (probably why nobody was crying in empathy with the "strike").

The politicians were bad, too. I don't want to shake your hand. Stop sticking it in my face.

The latest thing is ANTI-petitioners. They are sort of grass roots and they find out where the petitioners are and go and persuade people to NOT sign....sort of like a battle.

Either way I am hoping they don't succeed. I definitely do not want a spending cap or casinos in my state!
