I bought my DD a small aquarium. Guess what kind of fish she wanted. What else but Mickey Mouse fish!!! Guess what their names are.............................Mickey ::MickeyMo and Minnie ::MinnieMo !!!! Surprise, surprise!!!!

They are doing quite well. Always at the front of the tank looking for handouts!!!!!! :earboy2:

If you have never seen one, here is a link www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=1068

Her fish are actually better looking than this, very orange with a perfect Mickey head!!!

Who knew??? Not me, until she dragged me to Petsmart!!!

This doesn't look like Mickey at all. What am I missing? :listen:

The Mickey Mouse Platy is so named because of the black mark at the base of the body, reaching into the tail that is shaped like Mickey Mouse's silhouette. Color forms of orange, yellow, red, and blue are the most common.

I see the Mickey shape at the base of the tale :)

How cute! I've never heard of these before ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Look at the base of the tail- it took me a minute too :teeth:

That's pretty neat! I've never heard of them before!

Ali, near the fishes tail is a mickey head.

At the end of the fish where the black part is, it looks like Mickey's head. Tilt your head to the right and look at it again and you'll see it.

Oops- sorry I was posting at the same time :)

Lean your head to your right & look at the black spot. Mickey's ears are on the tail fin. DD got a couple of these from MsSocks last year for her birthday & it took me a minute to "see" it on her fish.

DD's fish croaked after a couple months, but MsSocks' fish did so well that she was desperate to give away their babies at Christmas. ;)

We used to have a bunch of those. They are alot of fun and easy to keep.

And I now have the whole company getting fish tanks! They keep coming back for more babies! I got tired of the adults ( Hans, Franz and Hilda ) so I gave them to someone with a bigger tank. Mine are only 1 gallon each. There are still 4 "teenagers" ready willing and able to reproduce. I think Mickeys are more prolific (sp?) than my guppies. Who by the way had about 30 more last evening. Good thing the pet store is always willing to take any leftovers. I'd hate to have to "set them free" like I do my extra snails. Run slinky! Run for your life! That's so much nicer than saying I threw them outside. I'm afraid to flush them - the snails - what if they crawled back up and my boss went into the bathroom?? :earseek:

I really do love the baby Mickeys. They are so cute and it's fun to watch them grow up enough to get their spots. Are yours hyper? I keep threatening to dissolve a Valium into the water - they are buggers to catch! They will jump right out of the tank they get so excited. Hhhmmm - kind of sounds like Dis'ers on their way to WDW.

Thanks for the link, at first I didn't understand why it was called a Mickey Mouse fish but I finally saw the "hidden mickey".

MsSocks - I'm lol here.

Platys breed like crazy. My female just died. I think being constantly pregnant did her in.

2 small fish in a 2 gallon tank has turned into quite the adventure.

I haven't had much luck keeping the babies, any tips? I think I replace my female this weekend.

we had no idea, either! we set up our aquarium right after Christmas--got 2 of the Mickey head fish :) Only one survived, though, LOL....

are there any Disney related aquarium accessories?

I had a tankfull of those when I was 8. I loved them, they don't live too long though, about two or three months...

I don't know if I would call them hyper, but they are always at the front of the tank begging for food. I have to be careful about feeding them, I think that they would eat until they explode!!!! They have quite an appetite!!!

I had 2 but one died. Mickey is still alive though and hanging out with my blue gourami (Ethel) in the tank.
