Anyone else have a weird phobia

I REFUSE to open canned biscuits. I always make DH do it, and I have to leave the room. One time he opened a can and it was the kind that you have to press the seam to open and he wouldn't do it for me. So I through the can against the wall and it opened. :thumbsup2

I don't know if this will make you feel worse, or better. I think I read this on the Darwin Awards web site. Supposedly a man was walking into a local Quickie Mart one day, and passed a woman sitting in her car with her hands folded behind her head. He went inside, conducted his business, and came back out a few minutes later to see the same woman sitting in the same, unusual position. He watched her for a few minutes and she didn't move a muscle. He became concerned and knocked on her car window, asking if she was alright. She asked him to call the police, explaining that she'd been shot in the head and was holding her brain in. The police came, opened her car door, and found out that she was fine but had raw buiscuit dough all over the back of her head. Apparently she'd been shopping earlier in the day and had purchased some biscuit-dough-in-a-can. It was so hot in her car that the can popped, sounding like a gun shot, and the dough hit her in the head with such force that she thought she'd been shot. I don't know if its a true story, but it made me laugh until I had tears in my eyes.

I get panic attacks if I'm looking under water in an enclosed space. For example that circular area in the Living Seas where it's as if you're in the tank really bugs me. I could only walk through because I was really getting nervous. It's like I have the willies or something! I remember feeling the same way on the Submarine ride when it was still around. I just can't stand it, it's so freaky to me.

Now, if there's a small exhibit (like the Nemo area) I can handle it, but huge walls of water really bother me.

Loose teeth- I cannot stand to see anyone wiggle a loose tooth, it freaks me out.

Ok, I didn't really think of myself as a phobic person until I read this thread
here's my list...
-Rats (can't look at them on tv, in a magazine, once I saw I live one and practically had to be sedated)
-Hypodermic needles - as long as I don't look at it, they can take all the blood they want
-Eye drops, nose drops, nasal spray - NO way is that going near me!

-I approach my canned biscuits very, very carefully, sort of sneak up on it with a spoon and jump away. I really thought it was just me!

Needles. I am scared to death of having blood drawn.

It's all my mother's fault. ;) When I was 3 or 4 years old, I had to have blood drawn for some reason and they were having a very difficult time getting it out of my arms. So for whatever reason, they decided to take it out of my NECK  and had to hold me down. Ever since then, I've been terrified to the point of having hysterical fits when somebody comes near me with a needle. DH has to usually calm me down and hold my hand, or I start shaking, crying, etc.

Backing up in a car.

I can back a car out of a space or down my driveway just fine.

But if I am in the passenger seat while someone else is backing out the car...I can't do it!! The feeling of going backwards like that & seeing everything pass by almost makes me sick.

NOTE: (It's not quite as bad riding backwards on the monorail in Disney, but
I still can't do it backwards....I have to turn around in my seat).

I am petrified of sewers! Hence, my dog was scared of them as are my boys! I used to see them get cleaned as a kid and I have the fear of falling into one! GROSS!

I also hate the sounds of someone biting ice or the sound of walking over a thin layer of ice on a puddle...literally sends chills up my spine! :scared1: I honestly just shivered writing that! :lmao:

im scared of birds..dunno why but i hate if they come near me!

This is my husband's phobia also. I guess it was quite a sight when he had to load the chickens out from the fair one year. I was working late and he had to do it all by himself, I got reports later from the fair director about how funny it was to watch.

My fear has got to be the weirdest. PLEASE NO FLAMES, I DON'T MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE!! but, I'm terrified of little people/dwarfs. OMG, I break out in a sweat, can't breath, etc. I have no idea why, I'm not afraid of The Wizard of Oz folks but Time Bandits is wayyyy beyond what I can stand. Can't even be in the same room when it's on.

Worst phobia is walking on ice or slippery places.....I just freeze scared to death I am going to fall on it every time. (I fell and had a compound fracture of my arm as a kid on ice). I do the walk like a penguin thing and take tiny baby steps if it is the least bit slippery.

Second phobia is big trucks..semi trucks..I am scared to death of them and being hit and run down by them. I hate driving by them, or walking near them even.

I am afraid of bridges and overpasses - the worst is when I get stuck on an overpass and I can feel it start to sway!! That is the worst feeling in the world!

I don't avoid them - I am just a mess when I am on them - my parents used to live in SF and before I went to visit them the first time I made the SF Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge my screensavers so I could get used to them before I left - if I looked at the pictures and really thought about them - I would have a panic attack - we drove over both - and we got stuck on the Bay Bridge in rush hour traffic -talk about 1/2 hour of total panic!!!

There was a girl I went to school with when I was younger, her mom was afraid of bridges. DEATHLY afraid. She would avoid a 10-15 minute ride over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in MD by going all the way up into the next state and back down around the other side of the bay to avoid that bridge. It used to take them an extra 2-3 hours to get to the beach.

I have a phobia about getting a papercut on my eyball. Anytime paper gets anywhere near my face, I freak!

I dont like popcicle sticks. The wooden kind . When I was in kindergarden
they use to give us those little wooden spoon like things to eat our ice cream
cups with. I got a splinter in the roof of my mouth and I remember that pain
to this day. Even the site of one makes me nervous. So I don't eat
popcicles .

I get so scared when a balloon pops, I jump and scream, I just hate balloons when they pop. DH messes with me all the time, he will go behind me and pop a balloon just to see me junp to the roof.

EEEEWWWW!
Now I'm totally grossed out...can't get the image out of my head!

Like a couple of you said, I too am an emetophobic (fear of vomit). I'm trying to get rid of the phobia as much as I can. I think I have gotten slightly better, but I still have that heart-pounding feeling when someone says they feel sick to their stomach or something. I don't get sick when I see someone on t.v. throw up though. The thing I fear most about having kids one day is taking care of them when they have to vomit. :confused3 Hopefully I will get over it by then.

Also I have a fear of heights. I don't like those stairs where they have spaces in between the stairs so that you can see what's below you. I walk as close to the wall as I can.

I also don't like sitting in booths at restaurants and eating places, I like sitting closest to the outside. Same with buses.

OMG!! I am petrified of FROGS!! I lived in Fl. for 10 years and that was the only thing I hated! on those nights when it rains and it feels like they are falling from the sky all over the roads and you have to drive through that... UGH, my stomach gets queasy and my palms are sweaty through the whole thing. I am ok with snakes, and other lizards. Spiders are actually quite interesting, other bugs are icky but tolerable... but frogs AHHH

Nice to know I am not alone

The only thing close to a phobia for me is frogs. I do not like frogs. And I grew up in S. FL, surrounded by them. :scared: But I don't think that's weird...if I were afraid of cucumbers, then I'd be weird, but frogs are normal.

Funny, though, I can deal with snakes, roaches (in small numbers) rats (again in small numbers) spiders, and any other creepy crawly thing you can imagine. Except frogs. I'd be plastered to the ceiling if one got in the house! :lmao:

When I'm in a large room, I hate to turn my back to the door or to the crowd. My family always waits when we go out to eat while I choose my chair. They say I read too many westerns as a kid and I'm afraid someone will enter the saloon shooting.

I hate the sound, smell, actually everything about vomit. I've been known to get sick myself when I cleaned up after my kids. At the first sign of anyone getting queasy, I get them a bucket. :teeth:

I can't drive or ride in a hot car. The movement makes me so sick if I'm warm. This is NOT good in the winter. My family hates me.

I don't like ladders. I don't like it, but I can go up just fine. Then when it's time to come down I freeze up. I also find it hard to reach to do anything while I'm up there.

I don't like wooden sticks in my mouth, but I carefully bite ice cream off. No licking of the stick though. Ewww.

I'm terrified of needles. My blood pressure goes sky high at the thought. I have to have blood work every 6 months and I dread it. I feel so much better once it's over each time. I have to concentrate on a poster or read something to keep from freaking out. (And I used to have to take weekly allergy shots, too!)

I don't like to sleep facing the center of the bed. I'll go to bed at night and face that way to talk to my DH, but when it's time to sleep, I have to turn over. :confused3

I have this "thing" with numbers. When I buy gas, the total must be a round number, like $30.00. If I happen to get $30.01, I have to see if I can put in enough to get $31.00.

When I turn the volume up or down on the tv, the volume number must be an even number or a multiple of 5. I can't stand it any other way.

Weird.

I do this too! Also I wont turn off the t.v. unless the time is at an even number. And I dont like to get out of bed in the morning until the time is an even number.

Whew, I thought I was strange because I can't open a can of biscuits. My DH will squeeze the can in his hand and it just terrifies me. If he's not around, I "drop" the can on the counter very hard,(throw, slam, call it what you like, I know I'm not holding it when it pops!!)

I can't step on a hard bug-that crunch makes me cringe.

My worst fear is of those bugs with all of those legs that live in my laundry room. They are called house centipedes and just looking at a picture of one frightens me. (google it, you will see what I mean! :scared: ) They look like moving moustaches :scared: and they seriously terrorize me!! When I see one I will drop everything I'm doing, scream like a crazy lady, and run.
