On October 29th, I came home feeling like crap. It was the night of the boy scout Halloween party, so I asked my DH to take the kids alone so I could lay down. Well, I cleaned up from the quick and easy grilled cheese that we have on boy scout night, then looked for DH's cell phone that he lost, and got stuck on the phone with one of his relatives... darn that phone that doesn't have caller ID (has since been replaced with a "good" phone.) By the time they got back, it was time to do homework and get them ready for bed. Come to think of it, I didn't lay down at all for the rest of the week either.
The next week, I still felt beaten up, and DH came down with the same thing. He was in bed every night after dinner until the next morning. He'd get bursts of energy when he had to do something for work or something for one of his friends, but the rest of the time, he was in bed.
I vow NOT to teach my DS the same thing. There are responsibilities that must be accomplished whether you're sick or not. A cold that makes you feel achy doesn't warrant making anyone believe that you're on your deathbed. IMO, you've got to pick when you're sick enough to warrant staying in bed. Otherwise, you're just the boy who cried wolf.
