Awww! Nutsy -- your Cav is adorable! My mom's dog is named Chipper. He'll be 3 years old in January! :)

Oh he is a real cutie Kara................

I've never seen one with that colouring before.........:D

Usually they are just brown or brown & black, but never have I seen a brown with a white stripe up the nose................

He is adorable.................:) :D

Bet he's spoilt just like ours is.:teeth: :teeth:

We have a blenheim (red & white) CKCS named Castellan Polo - we call him Casey. He is 5 years old and a WONDERFUL dog. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on a Cavalier and we could not be happier.

Nutsy - your tri-color Cavalier is beautiful. I think we may get one with that coloring next. Are Cavaliers popular in Australia? We had a very very hard time finding one around here and paid more than I care to admit for him but it was worth it :)

Kara - Chipper is lovely. I haven't seen too many rubies as they are much rarer here than the black/tans, blenheims, or tri-colors. I love the white stripe - reminds me of Casey's red dot on his white forehead.

Yes, they do shed, but their personalities are so endearing, that it's worth it!

Chipper is primarily a ruby (like his mom)... but his father was a blenheim, which accounts for the white markings on his face/forehead (traditional blenheim marks). He is not "show quality" as a ruby because the white markings are considered "flaws" which would disqualify him.... I don't think it's a flaw at all -- it's what gives him his character! :) :) :)

But you're right akasleepingbeauty, rubies are the least common of the colors. I got Chipper as a gift for my mom. I had intended to pick out a blenheim, but I fell in love with the one ruby pup in the litter - and that was it! I knew he was 'the one'! LOL!

They're ALL sooo cute though, aren't they! I haven't met a Cav yet that isn't as cute as a button!

Yes Rubies are rare even over here. When we got our little guy we had a choice of black & white or tri colour like ours is. We fell in love with ours because of his brown cheeks & eyebrows & he even has a brown bottom:)

Cavaliers are fairly common over here, tho not that common. Lots of people have never heard of them.

akasleeping beauty.........we got ours for a good price as we didn't get papers with him..........we only wanted him for a family pet not for showing, so to us papers mean nothing. It's the pooch that counts & he is adorbale & we are not in the least bit sorry we got him. Only problem we have is when we want to go on holidays. If it weren't for my Mum holidays just wouldn't be possible, as for some reason, nobody we know is willing to look after a house dog.:( So sad as he is so loving & a great companion.:D

Anyone else have this dilema??

Nutsy,

Sorry I wrote black/tan about your puppy - clearly I need to put my glasses on! I fixed it but wanted you to know I recognized my silly mistake!

We too have to rely on family most of the time to watch Casey during our vacations. In fact, he is at my father-in-laws tonight as we are going on a short trip tomorrow. We have also boarded him at the kennel a few times but only for a few days at a time when no one else was available.

It is hard to find someone to help and yet I guess I understand since it might be difficult for us to take in another dog for someone going on vacation - Casey would definitely be jealous :)

Of course, we don't take long holidays like many in other countries so that helps but finding good doggie care is certainly a chore at times. We also can't really use someone who visits our house. Casey is used to being in his crate when we are not home and would probably really be thrown off by either being in his crate all day or by being out of it all day :)

Casey does have "papers" and would be show quality but we are not interested in that. We bought him strictly for pet purposes. There were no others available anywhere near us when he was born so we paid the price although I would have certainly considered a "pet quality" puppy especially with an appropriate price. At least we already know the costs so that next time it won't take quite as long to recover from!!

Hi,

I'm Chipper's "Mommy"--KaraKW's Mommy too!! LOL!! Kara got Chipper for me just before she got married--she wanted to be sure I wouldn't be too lonely when all my DD's were gone! Chipper definitely makes sure I am not lonely!! He is truly precious--and I agree with Kara--I LOVE the white stripe up his nose!!

Chipper loves his crate too!! I had never crate-trained a dog before but I am convinced now. He was the easiest dog I've ever trained!! I HATE leaving him when we go to WDW. We have managed to get responsible housesitters but I still worry. Next summer, our youngest daughter, who works at WDW, should be living in a townhome which allows pets--so Chipper will vacation with us!!

Do your Cavs like other dogs? Chipper loves our cats but doesn't seem thrilled when another dog is around. I guess he just likes being "Top Dog." LOL!!

PKK/MJK...........our guy has never been fussed on other dogs, no matter how big or small or even how friendly they may be. But he is now 7 & is maturing I guess, as he now likes other dogs. Sniffs the rear end first tho..............:D He used to always growl at other dogs, so he is growing up finally..................:D

My brother and SIL have one. My SIL's sister raises and sells them. The one she gave to my brother was one she had sold and the people didn't take care of it so she made them give it back.

They are very cute.

My cousin has 2 of them..... I think they came from Canada and they paid a mint for them!! They are cuties though!!

Yes, they are expensive... Even the pups that are not "show quality" cost a pretty penny -- but I don't regret what I paid, because these dogs repay every bit in love -- and then some!! :) :) :)
