Anyone else get irrationally jealous when others post vacations on FB?

Nah, I love my friends (I keep my friend list small -- it's only people I know and am actually friends with, not strangers or my son's friends' moms or whatever) and I'm happy when they're happy.

I only don't like seeing "#soblessed." God didn't "bless" you with a villa in Turks and Caicos -- it's because your husband works 70 hours a week. #sogross

Oh boy do I agree with you! The whole "I'm so blessed" thing just KILLS me! Another peeve is some sunset picture, drink in hand, and "Life is Good". Ugh.

I do enjoy seeing people's travel photos - I really do - but we take our own fair share. I try to curb mine when I know a particular close friend might be having issues that prevents them from doing anything fun.

Thanks to Facebook, I am proud to say I have perfected my eye roll.

I know I have no reason to be jealous, we vacation regularly. But I have FB friends who are vacationing in WDW and Cozemel. They are posting pics and updates about how much fun they are having. Maybe because we aren't doing WDW this year? Also, maybe because I can't make people equally jealous as we don't post vacation pics/updates for safety reasons.....

Good grief no. I really enjoy seeing what others are doing during their vacations. Gives me ideas for my next trip.

I love seeing vacation pics to different places! One of my co workers goes in the best trips and always gives me tips. I make sure to tell him to post on FB so I can see what they are doing everyday.

Now, I do not care to see the 50 pics of someone's family on their yearly beach trip. Yes, we've seen you on the balcony, at the restaurant and sitting in a chair. Unless you are doing something more interesting, no thank you.

I don't usually feel jealous. I guess when I want something, I just try to figure out how to get what I coveted!!!!

SPEAKING of FB JEALOUSY:

My cousin has a baby boy who will be 1 in June. She is totally obsessed with posting pictures of every aspect of his life- even pictures of his dirty diapers. I don't have a FB account but my sister and my DH say it's not uncommon for her to post 20 pictures a day or more!!!!

My sister told me yesterday that several of this cousin's friends recently posted pictures of their daughters and said "Happy Daughters' Day to Mommy's Little Princess," etc. My cousin posted an incredibly spiteful comment that said those people had the wrong day and/or just made up daughter's day and what was the big deal about having a daughter!!!!! Today, my cousin deleted her FB!

This thread just reminded me of this news story !

I have an extended family member who was doing this with her child. I had to delete her.

i don't normally get jealous of others' vacations; however, this year, instead of vacationing, we have to put a new roof on DH's workshop (no choice, it's leaking in 2-3 places, and there's tens of thousands of dollars worth of tools in there). the shingles alone cost more than room and tickets at wdw. so, yeah, it seems like everyone i know is going to wdw this year, and i get to sit back and watch them have fun on FB. i know, i'm whining, it's stupid. sometimes it really sucks to be a grown-up.

I can relate and I totally agree.

We were planning a trip to WDW for January 2015... My wife's best friend's family went in February 2014, posting all their pictures to Facebook and her kids talking to my kids about how wonderful it is.... Well next thing I know we are now going first week in April of this year... So yes well all get a little jealous!!

I don't get jealous. But I do feel envy once in a while. Especially now.

I always travel a lot, for a long time to far places. But this year, due to various reasons, traveling will be limited to short getaways close by. So when I see friends posting pictures of themselves in Dubai, yes, I do feel envy, because I'd love to go back there. :)
Otoh, I'm just having as much fun on our short getaways nearby than last year in the heat in Dubai. And no long flights needed!

DH retires soon and we are headed out to see the USA in our new RV
We already travel a lot, very fortunate to have the time off and the funds
I sometimes don't put pics of every trip-I don't want to be seen as bragging

MY fave last year was the Blue Ridge parkway in NC last year-it was breathtaking-We actually were in the Smokies during the government shutdown-it was hysterical to see all the orange cones blocking parking lots-and LOTS of folks parking along the road and visiting the sites ANYWAY!

The end of that trip was my niece's wedding in a Vineyard in the NC mountains-simply wonderful.

No, if I did I would be nuts. We do not vacation at all at the moment. I wish we could but finances prohibit it at the moment.

Instead of having a pity party for myself, what I do is use Pinterest for later on if I see something cool. ;)

Not vacations, I envy those who travel for work sometimes, though.

I was offered a job that required 75% travel and turned it down because my son was in high school then. He's in college now and I'd LOVE to do it now!

As for vacationing, sometimes it's wonderful but it's mostly a hassle. I did it a LOT in my 20s - 40s, not that interested in doing it now. When I see the pics I smile and say BTDT! and glad they're having a good time like I did.

I kind of find this funny, since traveling for work is all the hassle without the fun...

Not at all. We have friends all over the world and we love to see what they are doing. Then when we see them there is less catching up to do. Plus it can give us travel ideas as well.

I sometimes feel a little twinge of envy when I see people in certain places. There are some places that I'm dying to go to and hopefully I can make that happen in the near future.

DH travels a lot for business and he usually enjoys that. His travel isn't high pressure though and he usually stays within Texas so he doesn't have to deal much with airports which I think makes a big difference. The trouble is that his idea of a fun vacation is staying home! I understand that but I prefer to go somewhere when I get a chance.

That's why half of Florida is inhabited by snowbirds, they stop traveling when they get older.

:lmao:

Actually, my MIL started travelling more after she became a snowbird. Even when she's down in Florida, she'll make a trip or two. Often, it's a cruise, since now that she's a short drive to the ports, they're pretty reasonable trips. :)

My Mother didn't start traveling until she was in her late 50's. She never had the time or the money to do it before then. But she's loving traveling around the world now. :)

That was my point, many older people spend there time traveling.

My DH and I were just talking a couple of weeks ago about how we take the mountains we live in for granted. We're at almost twice the elevation of the town of Gatlinburg.

I guess I should have said "some" older folks stop traveling when they get older, sorry.

Yes, a lot of older folks do travel but I know several who don't. Our neighbor is in his 70's and has never traveled, just no interest in it. I had a pen pal years ago that she and her husband weren't "into" traveling either (they were in their 40's at the time). She said they had no desire to see other parts of the states/world and she wanted to "sleep in her own bed every night."

Nothing wrong with not wanting to travel, just as there isn't anything wrong with wanting to. :)

No of course there isn't.But since you are posting on what is basically a travel board the majority of posters are going to be interested in traveling.
