Anyone else get bored on the ship?

Bored? Are you kidding? We also find it hard to believe that anyone can be stuck for things to do and see on a Caribbean cruise. In fact, even after 4 cruises, we still havent seen all there is on offer."Life is what you make it". Nat:Pinkbounc

I love learning new things, so the adult series is great for me. As long as the rainforest room and the workroom exist, I expect never to be bored. Relaxed yes, but not bored.

Bored on a cruise? No way! Relaxed? Yes!

Count me among the ones that can be happy with some down time and a good book. In fact I've been known to take a nap on sea days with the veranda door open and the fresh sea air coming in. Hey its my vacation and if I want to relax I will! Plus it made it that much easier to take in the eclipse that night as well as the midnight buffet.

I have also taken a lot of the backstage tours and love them. The rest of the time I'm very happy walking around the ship, doing a little shopping, and yes even logging on to the internet. After all we have to do our "live from the ship" reports :D

I am the original poster, and I wanted to point out a few things:

1. We were on the 4-day Wonder, so we didn't have the Adult series or all the backstage tours offered on our trip. Plus our only Port (besides Castaway Cay which was great:D ) was Nassau. We planned on spending the day on the ship, but there were virtually no activities being offered during the day. We explored the ship stem to stern, watched the lifeboat drill for 45 minutes, and even took a quick dip in the pool. We did eventually get off the ship in Nassau, but only for about an hour. I was so uncomfortable with the surroundings, the people, and how run down and depressed the area was that I got right back on the ship. The whole area just made me incredibly uneasy.

2. I enjoy reading a good book and relaxing as well. However, I am of the mentality that I can do these things at home for free. I don't want to pay $2,000 to sit in a deck chair and read all day (although I do realize that to many people, this is their idea of a vacation). That is why WDW works so well for my DH and I. We relax in the afternoons at the resort, but the mornings and evenings are filled with things to do.

3. My problem with the activities was that they were all scheduled at the same times. There wasn't a whole lot going on in the afternoon, but at night we had to pick and choose what we wanted to do. I wish things would have been more spread out during the day. Also, I wish they would have offered a few more behind the scenes things on the 4-day because that is the type of thing that interests me.

I am glad to see though that other people feel the same way as me! I enjoyed the cruise and will probably do it again in the future. However, I don't think it is something I would need to do every year (like WDW) but every 3-4 years.

Puffkin,

This Oct will be our first cruise and hopefully I will be able to relax and not feel bored. But I can understand your feelings, my DH and I cruised on RC for our honeymoon and he was very bored. He loves to relax at home (funny how that works) but not on a cruise ship. He stayed in the room most of the time and watched movies. The first few days I was upset, but the decided to each his own so I went and did my own thing. That is why it has been 12 years since our last cruise.

Surprisingly he is the one who wanted to take my DD11 on DCL, so I guess we will just wait and see. I have mentioned over and over that he might be bored again, but he's wants to try.

It just shows, everyone is different and should do what is best for them especially when vacations cost this much.

I was afraid, that we would be bored on the ship especially my husband who is a high energy type of person, so we started with a 3 day cruise and were completely hooked. We then went on a 7 day and are scheduled for another one. We were never bored, but I can't really tell you what we did, we just immensely enjoyed ourselves, we just took our time doing everything, we did not rush, we had a great time. On the 7 days our girls did not spent much time in the clubs, and we just had a great time hanging around together, we watched a couple of movies, we playing tennis table, we swam. My husband and I did participate in some of the talk and cooking series, we ate, we relaxed. I also love meeting people and we had quite a few DISer on the cruise, and it was great to run into each other and talk, a few of us spent a couple of hours at the rainforest, which was great.
So for me cruising is a great vacation.

There may be "down" times on the ship...but I could never think of those times as boring! That is when the real r&r comes in...time to just take in a deep breath of that salt air and take in the good life that a cruise offers...no dishes to do, no cell phones ringing, no e-mails to answer, no traffic to be stuck in....ahhh...boredom rocks!::yes::

I have to agree with cwf1028 (3rd post). My DW and 2 DS's (4 & 7) will be doing the 7 day land/sea package starting 7/29. We board the Wonder on August 1 (our 12th anniversary). This is our 4th cruise, but 1st Disney cruise. We picked this totally for the boys. I can tell you right now that we will NOT be board. If we can get the boys to the clubs during the day, we are looking forward to just spending some quality time together. We really don't care where it is (sitting by the pool, in our room, sitting on the verandah, etc.) as long as we are together. We both are into exercising, waling, etc. (DW more so that myself), so we are ok with just walking around the ship. My wife loves to read a lot. I like to read a little, but I'm also ok with just sitting by the pool playing some of the game on my hand held. Bottomline, I am looking forward to relaxing when I can and spending some quality time with the boys and DW as a family when we are together. I do a lot of research before we plan/book our vacations. Usually you can find out about every activity on the ship so usually I can tell if we will enjoy a certain trip. For the most part you have to look at what you want on a vacation. If you want a nice sandy beach then I wouldn't pick Vegas. If you are a heavy gambler, then why not pick Vegas. If you are looking for a nice romantic vacation with no kids then I wouldn't pick a WD cruise.
Anyway, we all are very much looking forward to our trip in 2 weeks. We all are planning to have a ball. As long as I can relax for a few days without the usually hectic days at work, fighting the Houston traffic every day, etc. I will be just fine.

mkbowlkw- I can see we come from about the same prospective. I have two daughters-ages 4 and 7 on the cruise in April and we are celebrating our 10th anniverary on the boat. I was actually a little concerned about being bored on the boat because most of the adult activities are not really our thing, but I think with the right prospective, we will have a great time just being "bored".

cfw, I agree. I'll let everyone know how things turn our for us. I know it is tough to plan everything, but we try our best. We we got married (at age 25) in 1992 we made a committment to wait at least 4 years before having kids (it was exactly 4 1/2 when our first son was born). This would give us a chance to enjoy each other. We also made a committment that after we have kids we will still get someone to keep the kids during our anniversary and take a trip by ourselves. For the first 11 years we did that it everything has worked out. We have gone to Hawaii twice, the Caymans, Playa del Carmen Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, several cruises and to Vegas last year for our anniversaries. This year we both agreed that it would be nice to spend our anniversary with the kids on the Disney Cruise. It is also better financially. We put the vacation funds together and took 1 summer trip rather then taking 2 (1 for us and 1 for the boys). Next year we will start the tradition (vacation for me and DW on our anniversaries) again.

Puffkin--I totally understand. We are going on our second Disney cruise (West Coast) next July. The only reason we chose Disney again was because if we went on RCL, my son would be in the teen club and he wasn't excited about that. The kids loved the kids' clubs on Disney and that's why were going. We were on the 3 day and they didn't have a lot of activities just for adults. I had much more fun on our Carnival cruise. I live in Southern California, and I can sit and read next to the pool under palm trees anytime (in fact I'm getting the kids ready in a few minutes to do just that). I have a hard time paying that much to sit by the pool reading. I am sure we will have a great time seeing the sights in Mexico and I do love backstage tours and learning things, so I am sure I will find things to do. I really do love the MAGIC of Disney!

No! I'm never bored on the ship! I have the opposite problem. There are so many things I want to do that I can't get to all of them.
I totally agree! I never seem to have enough time to fit everything in that I want to do!

Let's see, six children, three loads of laundry daily, two runs of the dishwasher, trips to school, sports, music lessons and rehearsals. I sure hope I'm bored!!!
