Anyone else get bored on the ship?

I know this is hard to believe, but we actually were pretty bored a majority of the time on the Disney Wonder. It was very relaxing, but we had a hard time filling our days. Evenings were no problems, there was plenty to do. However, we had trouble finding things to do during the day. The movie theater was nice, but they weren't playing anything we were interested in (except during the evening shows:rolleyes: ). The adult pool was small and crowded (I know it is big by cruise line standards) and bingo was expensive so we only played once. We spent a lot of time on the ship since the only day we got off was at Castaway Cay. There were lots of activities, but they all seemed to occur at the same times!

If I've got a book, a deck chair, and someone bringing me drinks, I could never get bored....

I can see how you can feel that way. Most of the things offered on the ship do not interest us (Spa, How to's, adult series, Palo, etc.) Honestly we are just looking forward to watching the kids have the time of their life and when they are in the clubs we are looking forward to relaxing, reading, playing cards, watching movies or TV and catching up on our rest. We are looking forward to the shows and dinner. I know we will join in some other activities, but I am trying not to imagine my days packed with excitement. I'm kind of looking forward to being "bored"!
This is our first Disney cruise and we are mainly going for the kids entertainment and the adult relaxation! We've been on a couple of other cruises before the kids.

Our first cruise (actually the 4th sailing of the Magic) they had less adult activities than they do now and we expected constant activities. We did get bored

On our second cruise with different expectations we were very happy. We brought books and enjoyed time on the verandah. They had added activities which we choose not to do some days.

So I think alot has to do with expectations.

On our 3rd cruise this spring I will have some things with us to enjoy and see what the navigator offers as well!

Ditto for me...BUT
By the time I got to the cruise portion of my land/land/sea/land vacation I was pretty tired and had been through several really stressful encounters and I just know that I wasn't as adventurous as I might have been if I had traveled with an adventurous friend...Cash doesn't count, although he's adventurous! ...(still talks about that convenient palm tree in Nassau). I think I should have pre-planned the shipboard activities by doing archived Navigator research a little better. I just wasn't in the Commando state of mind.....No regrets, though...

My dh gets very bored on the ship during the day. He is not at all into the how tos or programing series. He isn't much of a swimmer. However my three children love it so much that we haven't been able to pry ourselves from DCl. We are plainning our 5th cruise and my dh is prepared to be bored some of the time. At least with the addition of Diversions he can go down there and talk football. Sunday was his favorite day of the cruise last Nov because he got to watch the Giants at the bar.
He does however enjoy the pleasure of watching his childrens eyes light up when we bump into Mickey in the elevator or when Cinderella plants a big kiss on my ds's head.
I just wish there was more for him to do.

No but I am happy with a chair and a book or my crochet projects. Also I did not find the pool crowded when I went. Usually went early or very late in the evening. I found plenty to do.
Edited to add: I did take some interpreting work with me as well. Spent some of my time on deck 9 at a table glossing a few hymns and worship songs for the notebook I am doing for church. My goal is to have most of the songs glossed so I only have to review them prior to the service and for others that interpret to us as well since we are training newer terps now.

During at sea days and during the day at ports when we were not on an excursion I got bored too.

Those of you that get bored during the cruise...how do you amuse yourselves at home ? I am an active person...work full-time, have a special needs child and close family and friends, do volunteer work, exercise, cook all meals and keep the house up, stay current on most new books, follow 2-3 programs on T.V...and I was NEVER bored on the ship. How can it be boring to see beautiful places and learn new things ? I only had time to read three books during our 7 day cruise, which is incredible to me...have averaged a book a day for the last 30 years.

My DH and I feel the same way. We haven't done the Magic or Wonder yet, but we have cruised three times before and find ourselves bored during the day. We seem to just keep moving around from one area of the ship to another. It's the main reason we haven't cruised in a few years.

Just my two cents, of course.

Apparently you don't sleep... ;)

I get bored on cruises sometimes, too. This is why I generally come home weighing about five pounds more than I did when I left - I fill some time by eating and drinking (apparently there's approximately 1,000,000 calories per pina colada). I also read and just enjoy the sights. Being bored is not necessarily a bad thing. Usually life keeps me too busy to slow down and notice time. I look forward to being somewhat bored on my upcoming cruise.

I wouldn't say that I was ever bored while on the Disney Cruise Ship.

No there were not always planned activities that I was able to participate in. I used that time to wander the ship, discover things that you might not ordinarily look for (such as check out the medical facilities, find the conference rooms that kind of thing), look at the pictures on the walls in the hallways etc.

I looked at the day times more as resting up time so I could enjoy the evening activities on the ship.

Yes, part of the allure of a cruise vacation is "down time" - but too much can become boring. But I am wondering, if DCL didn't have what you wanted, what types of activities were you looking for? What do you do with your non-cruise vacations?

I hope that didn't come off sounding critical; rather, I'm curious as to how it could've been made better. :earsgirl:

No! I'm never bored on the ship! I have the opposite problem. There are so many things I want to do that I can't get to all of them.

Right now I would LOVE to be bored on the Wonder!!;)

We got bored during the day on our 5-1 Eastern cruise and it was the first time in any of our 15 cruises that we felt that way. Our kids hated the kids club and wouldn't go and the pool was a joke on sea days because of the 1000 kids on board, the movies shown on the ship were all movies that we owned such as Finding Nemo and Pirates of the Caribbean, and it didn't seem as there were very many other things going on during the day. On our Wonder cruise with the kids we never had this problem but I assume it's because we were in a port every day of the 4 day cruise. Most of our sea days were spent in our cabins watching tv and ordering room service cookies trying to get feeling better and get over being so sea sick. We've decided that cruising DCL isn't for our family because it has such a huge draw for a 1000 kids where the other lines don't.

We have sailed DCL 10 times and there are still things onboard that we have not done...like the wine tasting....or high tea....

Can't wait to go back....

My jaw is still on the floor from when I dropped it after reading these threads...it's a shame that you couldn't find things to do.... we did lots of excursions on our first cruise with Disney and did as much as we could pack in...the kid's loved the clubs and we loved just hanging out...

One of my hobbies is photography, and indeed I took lots of pictures.

I am very similar to "Wide Awake" I juggle many things, run 3 businesses, have a special needs child, work out in the gym 5 days a week, 2 hours a day, and I read about a book every other day....

I think this cruise is like life...you get out of it what you put into it...

I'm really sorry, and yet shocked, that you were bored. I can't imagine what it would take to excite you...

I don't think it's appropriate to go into that ...

But nevertheless, when I resort to checking e-mail in the middle of each cruise day....That's when I realize that the amount of relaxation time has far surpassed the amount of excitement time.....

We have never cruised before...but I'm guessing we will be far from board...on sea days and port days. I really can't understand why if the ship was so boaring....you stayed on durring port days...why not get off and explore the lands. We can't wait to see new places...met new people....and try new things.

Well sorry to hear about your disapointments with the trip...better luck next time. :D
