Anyone else get a "Merchandise Credit" offer?

So in my email box I have just found a "Lisa get a Disney Merchandise Credit for less!"

The offer is for a $500 gift card at a cost of $395. Or, if I'd like, I can get a $600 credit for $445, or a $1,000 for $695. The card won't ever expire and its good at over 150 locations. After reading the small print this cannot be used towards paying of a trip (makes sense - that would be a huge discount!), or for buying any food or drink, or at any store not owned/operated by Disney (think countries within Epcot).

That being said, I think the card can only be used for "merchandise" which is what it is called after all - such as souvenirs.

Anyone else get this before? What do you guys think?

Personally, I'm thinking the only way I would be able to use this all is to use it on multiple trips (no problem as I'm going in Dec. and then again next Feb.). But I'm still not sure that I want to fork over that much money this far in advance!

Lisa, I got the same email today and I agree with you. While it seems like a good savings, I'm not sure I could spend that much on souvenirs. Unlike you, I am not planning a second trip so I guess I will have to pass on this deal!

I haven't gotten that email, but sounds interesting. Not sure how much we normally use on souveniers, but with 5 kids (and mom and dad)....I'd say we'd probably spend 300-400 easy so buying the 500.00 one would be awesome. Maybe I'll get the email? Does anyone know if it's only by invitation?

I'm guessing its only invitation because it includes a pin code, but I say "guessing" because it may be that everyone who has made reservations will get one (kind of like the discount on the photo pass cd when you purchase it ahead of time).

Good luck!

I have to admit, I'm still considering it for myself...have to talk to DH about this one!

It is definately a pin code - I got it today. I dismissed it at first but now I wonder if I might do it if I can use it towards my photopass. Off to see where it might be good....

Had it been for food I would have been all in for $1000 without blinking an eye!

Oh well, we have resort ressies for next year...but no email or pin (shouldn't be surprised, I've never gotten one LOL).

here are some exclusions:

I got one too. I am most likely going to take them up on the offer. I just have to decide how much I want to get. I did call about it and asked a couple of questions. You can only get one gift card per reservation and they can't split it up. I am going with a non family member so I was trying to figure out the best way for both of us to take advantage of it. I wonder if you can use it to pay off a room charge. I going to call back and ask that question.

It says you cannot use it on rooms and since you can't use it to pay for food, I don't think room charges will be accepted :sad1:

I didn't think the card expired though, so could you use it for many reservations to come (if you didn't spend it at on one vacation that is)?

I'm so confused! :goodvibes

I received the email today, too. I have to talk to my DH, but it seems like a good deal to me. The only thing is we will also have the $200 gift card from booking our package, DS will be there on his birthday, so he will get another card for the price of his ticket, and I don't know if we will really need that much $. Does anyone know if the b-day card and the booking card are the same- merchandise only and not food?

Can you use it to buy tickets seperately from a room package? Sorry if I missed that already.

I wonder when it is good for?
Now or 2009 bookings
anyone?

I called and talked to the merchandise credit hotline. Basically, it is a gift card for merchandise only - it will never expire. You can only use it on merchandise. No services, not the photopass, not tickets. I said to the lady - so basically only souveniors (and the list of stores not included is rather long) and she said yep. I told her thanks and that I would have to pass as that was a lot of money for just souveniors. She said yep - that is pretty much everyone's reaction so far.

From another thread this offer is being offered to a select numbers of people checking in from Dec.1st onward. Since it is a pin offer there is no rhyme or reason as to how they select people for this offer.;)

As far as for 2009 I can't answer you question but it could become avialable to later bookings if you already have ressies.:confused3

I wonder if you can use it for Disney Catalog purchases after returning home?

DH and I did the math last night and there really isn't any differnce between the 395.00 for 500.00 GC ir the 445.00 for the 600.00 one since you have to pay 50.00 more you still get the 105.00 free.

This current pin offer expires 1/23/08 i believe but the cards never expire so if you are taking another trip then it may work out for you.

We bought the $1000 card today. It never expires, it doesn't have any balance soaking fees, and it's going to save me $305 dollars on merchandise, which frees up money from our "stuff budget", so that we can do a different car rental which we both agree will increase our trip enjoyment. :thumbsup2

I did ask if we could use it before our package kicks in since we arrive with a room only AAA rate for the first few nights and the last 5 nights are on the Disney Visa FD package, but was told that the Merch Credit was much like the FD, it's attached to the package and can't be used before the 14th.

I love this deal! :cool1:

Would please share that phone number with me? I am trying to find out if it is good for apparel at the Magnolia Golf Course pro shop. I called the number on the email and that lady said she didn't have a list of where it was good at and transferred me to Disney Golf and that lady didn't have a clue what I was talking about!! The only way this is going to be a deal for me is if I can use it at the pro shop.
