Anyone Else Forgo Mousekeeping?

Nope, I love Mousekeeping. I think they do a great job. We always get extra towels and ask for a few extra shampoos. Last trip I left a note with our daily $3 tip and came back to about 20 shampoo bottles lol. Also, We were there last July and came back to a different towel animal every day but the 1st day we were there. We hadn't had that many since our trips 10 years ago.
I think it's weird not wanting to have your room cleaned and your bed made for you every day. :confused3

On one trip, someone I was traveling with wasn't up to leaving the room, so we put up the DND sign. Mousekeeping called in the afternoon and asked when they could get into the room to clean. Has this ever happened to anyone else? That experience led me to believe that maybe the rooms had to be cleaned each day. I wouldn't mind skipping it if the room hasn't been cleaned when I return to the resort for my afternoon break.

We have had polite messages left for us on the phone saying that they had noticed the DND sign and wished to respect our privacy, but if there was anything we needed, to contact housekeeping. We have never been made to feel like they were required to get into the room. If they ever did that, and I did not feel like having someone in the room to clean, I would be speaking to a manager.

I like to put the tv remote in a zip loc bag upon arrival, and I'll wipe the door handles with disinfectant wipes too. Don't really need mousekeeping everyday. Call housekeeping when we need towels. Only wipe things down upon arrival.

i am getting wipes this trip. never did for dl but wdw hotels seem to be messy from some reviews ive read.
I am also not one to let mouse keeping in every day. I have had twice, where I come back from the park to find them in my room. Hence I do not like to let them in. I will request what we need when we need it and will let them in 1 or 2 times during this trip. I will also wipe down things before we unpack.

If we come back to the room for a mid-day break and the room is not clean, we put out the DND sign. We like to rest/nap and I don't want to have to leave the room once we settle in. If we need towels, I walk around and find the cart and take some clean towels/soap from the cart.

I put out the sign but usually also call after I check in and let them know that I don't want service during my stay. Occasionally I'll run into my Mousekeeper and they have asked me if I was sure that I didn't warn my room cleaned. It was pretty low key though. No one has ever called or knocked on my door or anything.

I have had stays where they left a bag of clean towels hanging from the door. Once it was every single day! I'm usually solo and am fine with reusing a towel but she was determined to see that I was clean and dry. I think I had six bags by the time I checked out :)

Just remembered something-I was pretty sick for the last two days of my last trip-it walked and quacked like norovirus. On checkout day I stumbled over to the front desk and asked for a late checkout. The CM was great and let me stay in the room until I had to board DME but I thought she would have made some notation to give room 6432 a special cleaning. I told her that I'd done my best but it was probably going to be pretty toxic in there but she didn't seem interested. I hope they gave it a special clean because whatever I had was pretty epic.

I'm on vacation! Heck yes I have housekeeping!! Lol. Love coming back to tidy room and beds made. They don't make themselves ya know :upsidedow
When we check in I wipe down everything in room with Lysol wipes. My (adult) daughter has gotten several stomach bugs at wdw. Oddly the first time I started disenfecting room, she got one!! I think rides are more of a culprit, with handling seat belts, lap bars, etc. We bring hand sanitizer too.

Okay, we're staying at a condo in Vegas with no housekeeping at the moment and I just made the bed-37.09 seconds.

But these days it's either just me or DH with me. I took a friends two tween daughters back in 2014 and we did use Mousekeeping. The girls were pretty messy and I didn't want to "Mom" them.

We were at Ft Wilderness in a camper when our two were young so no housekeeping there. I guess I'm just used to it.

One reason I like to drive is that I can bring my pillow :)

If you leave your DND sign up for more than a few days, Mousekeeping may check on your to make sure nobody is sick. We have family that came down with a bug almost as soon as they got there. Mousekeeping at ASMo came to the door on their 3rd day because they had seen the sign but didn't happen to catch anyone coming or going. They just wanted to make sure everything was ok. When they found out they were sick, they informed the front desk who made sure they were able to get food or anything else they might need.

Definitely not going to forego Mousekeeping! It's a nice touch to have them tidy up and make your bed while you're at the parks. Or vacuum the glitter out of the carpets... ;)

I understand the DND sign in the mornings, we use it because we know they start cleaning at 8am and we are barely awake by then. But we make a point to be out of that room by 9am and have the DND sign taken down so the staff can get their shift over with... ;)

We tip about $5 daily and $15 upon checkout because I know they have to strip the room in very little time that day. Also by the time we left, we had two LARGE boxes of recycling and half a dozen blown-up balloons (I *told* my Mom to only blow up one or two... not six...) AND my DD had spilled some juice on the sheets while watching cartoons, thereby causing the poor Mousekeeper to change our whole bedding setup twice during the stay.

I've watched enough College Program videos, I get it, I would want to be treated nicely by my guests too, if I was Mousekeeping! I also worked in housecleaning for the better part of 2 years, no fun at all, and people make a mess just so that you can clean up after them...

And no it doesn't bother me that they might use Windex on my drinking glasses. Or that the cloth cleaning the mirror might also be the same one that was used to wipe down the bathtub. It's soap, people. Scientifically it has been doing the same thing for all time. A brand or manufacturer can't change science - all I care about is that the room is vaguely clean by my visual standards. Like I've said before, my DH and I joke about bringing a blacklight just to see all the fun stains, but we never do... ;)

I'm so glad that I am not the only OCD/germaphobe. I take clorox/lysol wipes to wipe down bathroom/toilette seat/bath tub as well as door handles/remote and bed heads and tables. I do take pillow cases and top sheets also. Is anyone thinking about taking swiffer (put clorox wipe on it) for the new "hard wood" floors done in YC/Pop/CSR refurbished rooms? I'm totally fine with not having carpet since I think they are most disgusting thing as they collect dusts and germs. But new floors, I've keep on reading that the guest are seeing uncleaned parts. I am thinking, if we do stay on one of the refurbished rooms, I would feel much better if the floor gets disinfected with wipes.

I wipe down stuff too. I have seen too many Dateline shows where they go in with the black light. I also decided it was worth it when they said they consistently find fecal matter on the remote. They said it's either people going to the bathroom and not washing after, or housekeeping using the same rag to dust as they used to clean the toilet. I also wonder about what a pp said, if the previous occupants were ill. Who knows if they give it a deep disinfecting clean, if they are alerted that is. I'm sure some guests would not alert housekeeping if they had a bad virus. I usually take a few minutes to wipe everything down. It makes me feel better LOL!

I'm not a germaphobe by any stretch of the imagination (in fact, I pride myself on not being one), but I would not be OK with my drinking glass being cleaned with Windex. It has ammonia in it, for Pete's sake!

DH loves housekeeping and thinks I'm nuts but I can't get past visions of the staff cleaning the sink with the same cloth that they used on the toilet or, if I get really paranoid, my toothbrush.

Prolly should stay off YouTube!

This falls into the things just best not thought about!! Hehe!!

Never! Every other year we go on a vacation where we just rent a house, which means cooking, cleaning, bed making, so it's not a vacation for me. Mom needs vacation time, too.

I'm another one that wipes down the room when I first get there. Also..... ALWAYS ask for a new TV remote!! that thing is so gross! And never use the alarm.... although they are removing them from most rooms now. When I think of the typical things that people touch with nasty hands but housekeeping rarely wipes down.... UGH! :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:
So if it's just me and my DD we typically just have them every 2-3 days and will call each day and ask for towels.... and hand them the dirty ones when they arrive, or leave them outside the room in the morning. I am a clean towel freak!!
