Anyone Else Forgo Mousekeeping?

Never occurred to me to wipe down our room with lysol wipes until reading this thread!
Geesh, now I have another thing to pack...

When we did dvc rental, we thought we might miss daily housekeeping but did not mind at all.
The only things we wipe down are the remote , phone, alarm & the safe key ( at other hotels it would be the safe keypad) . Just due to an Oprah or 20/20 episode from 10+ years ago. Although the worst thing on the show was the bedspread. No wonder every place we have in the gone since then has gone to now uses the white comforter or a sheet over the blanket

I don't like it every day. It feels wasteful and I make sure to tidy up after myself (and I make sure my DS does too). 1-2 times in a week's stay is reasonable to me.

We never forgo mousekeeping! It's part of our holiday not to do housework/cleaning, but we are tidy people and I'd feel too guilty leaving the room in a mess each day so we usually make the bed up as we would at home and put our towels to be changed in a neat pile!

DH loves housekeeping and thinks I'm nuts but I can't get past visions of the staff cleaning the sink with the same cloth that they used on the toilet or, if I get really paranoid, my toothbrush.

Prolly should stay off YouTube!

This is so me! I always hide my toothbrush, because of horror stories (probably mostly urban legends) that I've heard over the years! Not at Disney World specifically, just housekeeping in general.

My DW thinks in a manner similar to you. When she gets worked up over some things like that (in my opinion), I have gotten into a little trouble by comparing her to the Child Detection Agency and saying, "We have a 2319!"

We're DVC members and it's surprising (to me) how little I miss the daily housekeeping. My only real need during our stays is to empty the trash, but I can handle that myself. Towels? They can go in the in-room washer/dryer, it's really not a big deal because we pack light--very light--and do laundry too.:earsboy:

I will never own DVC (at least not unless I divorce my, in all respects outside his irrational dislike of all things Disney, lovely DH) but I do lust deeply, like unhealthily obsess, about those kitchens and washing machines!

I'm a unicorn.

We never use housekeeping on any vacation - not just Disney. It's not a germ thing. Its more about not wanting people in and out of our room. We are very tidy so there really isn't a big need. We just replace towels as needed.

12 nights stays. We only have housekeeping 3 times.

We're very tidy as a rule and I find it wasteful to have towels etc. washed often - I have found in the past even when our towels were hung (as opposed to thrown in the tub for cleaning collection) the housekeepers replaced them. There's only two of us so I don't find daily housekeeping necessary.

Always. Nobody in my room until I check out. We keep our room pretty neat, and empty our own garbage. Will ask for clean towels as needed.

Mousekeeping is part of being at Disney for me. I don't wipe down the room.... in my mind those same germs (and more) are on every door knob, hand rail, bus, table, ride etc. once I leave the room. I go into vacation mode but I keep the room tidy so there is not much for the mousekeepers to do above the obvious making the bed, trash, bathroom and towels.

I don't wipe down anything in the room either, but I always have the Do Not Disturb sign out for the entire trip. I don't like people being in my room, I don't need my bed made or my towels changed, and we don't make much trash. If there is something I need, I ask for it when the mousekeepers are in the hall.

Exact same here.

Why are your skivvies out where they need to be tiptoe around? Do you leave them out and about at home? And why do you feel housekeeping tiptoe? Or cares?

Not only our skivvies. We are messy people on vacation. Don't need strangers looking at our partying mess cause we are too lazy to pick stuff.

One of the things I love about being on holiday and staying in a hotel is someone coming in to make my bed every day.

We usually hang up towels and use them a few times, but I do enjoy being able to collect lots of lovely miniature toiletries too.

Mousekeeping is going to be a must for us... though having never stayed at Disney the idea of tipping the chambermaids daily is new to me - how much do people leave?

We usually leave at least $1 per person each day, but when I travel alone I leave $3-5.
