Anyone else feeling nickle and dimed lately?

I've been noticing more and more mistakes at the cash register. My Wisk was supposed to be $3.99, but I was charged $5.49. I complained and they gave it to me for free, as is the store's policy when they charge the wrong price in the computer. And at at Sears, I asked for a price check, said no to the item, but was charged anyway--even though I didn't buy it.

Check your receipts, everyone. Mine have been wrong at least 50% of the time lately.

This happens to me time and time again at W*lmart. It never fails, every time I go in there (which, because of this, is not often) I would say that at least 3 items ring up wrong compared to what the shelf says. I told my husband, now I see how you can spend $100 and not know how. That's because, the items are not ringing up correctly.

This summer my kids wanted hula hoops so they could practice for the hula hoop contest at the WL Pool. The price on the hanger the hula hoop were on was $3.00, that's fine I can pay that. When we got to the checkout, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the price ring up $5.00 each!! That's $2.00 more than the price displayed. So, right there that was an extra $4.00 added to my bill, since I was buying 2. I told the cashier never mind, I don't want them because they are not ringing up right. For weeks they still had the hula hoop hanger marked as $3.00.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure you all know the story...

Whenever something like this happens to me, I tell them what the price is on the shelf. Sometimes the cashier goes to check the shelf themselves (in smaller stores) or sometimes they call a manager. More often than not I end up getting the price that's marked on the shelf. If they refuse to give me the price, I don't buy the item unless it's something I really need. Our grocery store makes you go to customer service for things like this, so I'll only bother if it's something I really want at a very good price, but the times I've done it I've gotten the price as marked on the shelf. So yes, I am that annoying woman holding up the line to get a price checked. ;)

I get this a lot too and, since I refuse to shop Walmart after a really bad experience there, it is happening all over.

I got so fed up with Kohl's stuff ringing up wrong that I check each item at one of the price check machines and if it shows the wrong price, I will photograph the sign with my cell phone. At the check out I just show the cashier; sometimes she can fix it and sometimes they call a manager but I always get the price corrected.

When DS#1 was little, Huggies were ringing up wrong at the grocery store. Their policy was you got the item free if it didn't ring up correctly. I went back every day for a week and got free diapers before someone finally fixed it. I told a manager every time but no one got off their duffs to correct the error so I didn't feel bad at all about those seven packs of free Huggies.

Oh yes, I have noticed this too. On vacation, I went to a really nice outlet mall to some name brand stores and was overcharged at 2 of the 4 stores I bought at.

At one clothing store, the 2 shirts I bought were 2 for $20 and the display was right in front of the register. They shirts scanned at the $12.99 price each (overcharged almost $6).

At the next store, the flip flops I bought were 75% off the regular price (overcharged $5). Only took about 25% off.

If I wasn't a receipt checker, I would have never noticed this since I had several items I was purchasing.

My dh never checks receipts and I am sure he is overcharged on a regular basis.

Yeah, I check my receipts religiously now. Actually, what I've started doing is putting all the stuff that's on sale or marked down at the beginning of the pile at checkout, then stand there and watch the marked down things come through-once they make it through with the right $, then I put the rest of the stuff up. Save $$ at Target yesterday-makeup was tagged 4.99 but still had the original $12.99 ring up...

We switched dance studios because with the first one we'd pay for the class, then there was a registration fee, then there was a mandatory picture fee (group photo, were required to be there and pay for the sitting fee even if we didn't want the picture of our kid with 10 other strangers), costume fee, DVD fee, venue rental fee, and frickin' ticket fee! I think there was even a "processing fee" thrown in there. I asked the owner if they were planning on changing their name to T-Mobile and this year switched the kids to a dance studio that has the class fee and then one other fee that you pay at the beginning of the year that covers EVERYTHING. I figure it's saved us about $150/kid, when I add up what the new place gives you vs. the old place. Added bonus: dance teachers who aren't 40 lbs overweight and teach from chairs .

I crack up everytime I go to whole foods, the prices are not cheap but they give you back a dime for using your own bags. I forgot mine once and had a brief moment of maybe I'll just wait to buy them another time....so I could save a dime. I shook that off and bought my stuff, but I did ask them to keep the bag count low.

Ok, how about my primary care physician charging $25 for a prescription refill for my allergy meds. She was only going to give my the script not the actually medicine. Really my co pay to actually see her is only $10 but if I call over the phone she would charge me $25. Now that is crazy!

My BFF is a Disney nut, but she's reached her nickle & dime point with the Mouse. They pushed her over the edge with their $3.00 charge for standard embroidery on hats and mouse ears. She walked out of the shop at DLR without buying anything.
