Anyone else feel down about all the neg. Poly reviews?

I am a bit concerned. I have the poly concierge reserved for our annual mother/daughter visit with my little girl. I got a great rate months ago and we plan to go in December. I am trying to remain positive and enjoy it. :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :cool1: :goodvibes See how positive I am being!!!!!!

I've been to the Poly 9 times since 1972 with the most recent this past October 2006, and not once have I had a bad stay, heck, I haven't even had a slightly less than spectacular stay. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, and I'm not saying this because it's my favorite resort, but every visit has been fantastic. It's been said many times on this forum, many people go with astronomical expectations and anything less is a huge disappointment. Go, experience it at least once for yourself.

I am not worried about the negative reviews because it's not just the Polynesian that always get's bad posts, since people post negative things about all the other WDW Resorts. I always see people post negative things about the Contemporary however my family and I always have amaizing stays there, so that is why I choose not to believe everything I read. I also think that sometimes people put so much hype into a few minor problems, which makes others worry if they have an upcoming reservation at a specific WDW Resort which was being talked about in a negative way.

We stayed at the Poly in January, and while it's not our family's favorite resort (we  CRTower!), it's a great resort and I'm sure you will be very happy with your choice! Everyone comes to WDW looking for their own magic--(and sitting in a CRTower room with a view of Wishes is mine!)--and if you have a happy heart, you'll find yours at the Poly. Heck, my kids LOVED the hammocks at the Poly--they'd beg to go play on them as soon as we came back from a park!
Here are some examples of Poly magic you can look forward to:
**Aloha and leis
**Tonga toast and best coffee in WDW at Kona!
**Lush landscaping
**Tiki torches lit up at night
**Hammocks!
**Pina coladas by the pool
**Choice of Poly monorail stop or use of TTC (be sure to ask to sit in the front car of the monorail!)

Enjoy! :)

We really liked the Polynesian on our last trip (7/15-7/21) and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, however there are just too many rude CM's there that make the trip less fun.

Thanks for originally posting this as you expressed my exact feelings. Lately, there is a lot of negative on the board. I appreciate you positive posters, though. Our Disney payment coincided with our 3 kids' tuition and the credit card with a thousand dollars of summer Chick-Fil-A (surprise dear husband):rolleyes1
I really want the stay to be as magical as all my stays at other resorts at WDW have been. For me, to make it magical is a kind CM welcoming us "home" and realizing that the MK is right beyond the lagoon.

I'll be interested in hearing how the fest of "the one no longer allowed to be named on these boards" goes. Hopefully we'll get some good trip reports! Until then, I'll be giddy planning our vacation and staying positive!

How fun!!! Are you going before the Christmas rush? Our BEST WDW trip was the week before the Christmas holiday. Hardly any crowds, the Poly CMs were so cheery, the resorts were all decorated, the concierge lounge was so much fun.

I'll repeat what other posters have stated...don't let the relatively small number of posters who want to vent here take away your magic. Just think of all the lurkers who have a great time and don't post.
We will be at Poly in 12 days. I'll report any good and bad that happens.
But I'll be honest, I'm a very positive person and tend to do whatever it takes to make my environment positive...I don't let others conrol my outlook on life.

Don't be worried, I've stayed there the last two Augusts and will be there again in a few weeks myself again. Even last summer during construction and the temp Capt Cooks, it was great. I've stayed at most of the resorts and the Poly is by far my favorite. You really can't go wrong there, great atmosphere, restaurants, location close to MK with Wishes pumped in, monorail right there.

My feeling is you can go in with the attitude of not sweating the small stuff, or you can dwell on the small stuff. And since nothing is ever perfection no matter where you are, chances are it will only be small stuff. I hope you love it as much as myself and family do!

I've read the negative reports. Here are the complaints that I remember:

the a/c was too loud (We've never noticed, but since it is central air you can be sure that it is quieter than those through the wall units in the Mods and Values)

the elevator smelled (again, never had that problem, but if it had it would not have ruined our entire vacation - and we would have taken the stairs up the one or two floors if it really bothered us)

the lobby is dated (what the heck does that mean? The Disney Deluxe resorts are themed to take you to another time and place - and the poster with this complaint prefered Wilderness Lodge's lobby which represents the national park lodges built during the Depression - pretty "dated" if you ask me, but I think it is nice.

the light from the tiki torches came in through my slider (I can't believe that someone actually complained about this! I love the tiki torches!! And as far as I know, all the rooms are equipped with room darkening drapes:rolleyes: )

the pool is too crowded (all the pools at Disney are crowded, but I've never seen either of the pools at the Polynesian closed because they have reached capacity)

Housekeeping was not completed when I came back to the room mid-day. (not every one can have their room cleaned first. If early housekeeping is important, request it.)

It is too expensive (yup! I agree and bite the bullet almost every time. I think the park admission, food and air fare are all too expensive as well!)

To the OP, go to the Polynesian and have fun! :goodvibes

We're off to the fest of he who must not be named in just 3 days. :thumbsup2

I agree with you 100% that those reasons you posted are people over hyping things that sound like minor problems.

I for one would not worry about it. Its really a double edged sword, the disboards. I love the information but often the reviews of restaurants and resorts get me dizzy, worried and miffed! They make me dizzy because everything seems to get a good review, then a bad one, then a good one, than a bad one. Then I get worried because I envision my vacation being spent listening to some sort of loud noise or another, eating food that is awful, waiting for "hours" for buses at my resort and then somebody has to post that the bespread will give my kid herpes. And lastly, I get miffed when if I post a good experience (this one almost always happens on the restaurants board) I am told "well you don't know good food if you like that place". So I have learned to read the reviews and take them with a very large grain of salt. There are too many long time Poly lovers on this board to make me think that it cannot overall be a very nice place to stay. I know it might have problems and that not every stay can be perfect. But in the end, reviews are really just opinions and teeny, tiny little slices of the overall experience thousands of people (most of whom have never heard of disboards) have had in a given month.

Have a great time and don't let the excitement of your very nice resort choice (you lucky dog) wane!

I'm not worried at all. I've read the reviews, mostly more good than bad and will going in with a positive attitude and will hope for the best.

I think if you do a comparison to a non Disney resort in the same price range, you may find that the one that is non Disney may have more amenities and possibly better service. One thing some may not take into consideration is that Disney is also charging a premium for close proximity to the parks and on site access to the monorail.

Try not to worry too much and then make your own judgement. Chances are you'll have a great stay.:)

We just had our first stay at the Poly July 1st- 6th. It was amazing! We can't wait to go back. It was beautiful! Our room was very clean. Everyone was so helpful! We had a blast at the volcano pool. Viewing the fireworks on the beach is magical! I can't say enough about how great a resort it is. We're going back next year and planning on staying at the Poly again. We really wanted more time at the Poly.

This negative information had me so wanting to change our Club Level Lagoon View Room Aug 5 - 7 a few hours ago. I called to make the change but the AKL Relocation group was gone for the day. After much thought, I believe we'll stay put and see what happens. This is our first trip (POR July 31 - Aug 5 and Poly Aug 5 - 7).

to post it!!! When people have a bad experience they're 95% more likey to report it or complain then when people have a good experience. So let's all remember to post how great our POLY stays are. I can't wait. I seem to remember my last trip. I chose the POP over all the values after much deliberation. And then I swear it seemed a lot of negative reviews started occuring. I did think about switching. Had a great stay. I can't imagine I won't like the POLY at least as much! LOL.

Actually we are headed there on 12/14! So far the concierge IPO office has been wonderful, making my reservations, etc. Can't complain about that. I will be waiting to hear how your upcoming visit goes! I am a go with the flow kind of person unless it involves cleanliness. Then I go ballistic since I am a bit of a germ-a-phobe. So as long as the room is clean and people are not outwardly rude to me I am okay. I rememver the concierge lounge to be really great (snacks, drinks, etc).

We were just there in April and had no complaints at all. It was great. We were in Tokelau and loved the location. My only problem now, is trying to figure out how to save enough money so we can go back again next year!

Thanks everyone. I really am looking forward to our stay. Looking at the pictures again reminds of how much I want to stay here. I will give hopefully a good report when we get back. We are staying sept 16-27. Thanks again for all the positive reviews.:goodvibes

I am really starting to feel down about reading all these bad reviews about the Poly.

<<<RANT MODE IS ON>>>

OK, I've read just about as many threads concerning bad reviews at the Poly as I can stand. I refuse to read any more of them, so this will be my last response on the subject, not that anybody cares.

Actually I'm getting pretty bored with all the bad Poly reviews. Some people think that just because they are paying $300 - $450 / night that everything should be absolutely perfect for "their" trip. What $300 - $450 / night will get you is a resort with great theming and an unbeatable location.

"It was noisy in our room", "a trash can was full", "mousekeeping took to long to clean our room", "the room was to dirty to perform surgery in", blah, blah, blah... This can and does happen at ALL of the resorts.

If you want a resort with great theming and unbeatable location then go for the Poly. If you want complete peace and quiet with absolutely no problems then pull the bubble over your house and stay home!

In 18 visits to the Poly over the last 17 years (roughly 160 nights) we've had a few problems, nothing earth shattering that ruined our vacation though. We've also had a few issues with BWI and DL. NEVER had a problem at the Poly with noise though, don't know where this comes from. Probably from people who grew up as spoiled little brats that mommy and daddy couldn't please enough and who think everybody in the other 900+ rooms should be absolutely silent because it's time for "ME" to take a nap or go to sleep. GROW UP!

Maybe I should just b&m like many others do about problems I've had there so that more people will stay somewhere else. This will give me a better shot at a discount at the Poly when I go again in Dec.
