I am really starting to feel down about reading all these bad reviews about the Poly. I have read the good ones too, but somehow the bad ones stick out in my mind. We will be staying here in Sept. for the first time. I have always wanted to stay here and it took months to talk my dh into this and it has taken a long time to save. Now we are paid off and ready to go and I keep hearing bad things. Anybody else get a pit in their stomach when they see the thread title containg the words bad and Poly?:sad1:

I agree. I've always wanted to stay there as well. I'm trying to decide where to stay this December...and I would just be sick if I spent my hard-earned money only to be disappointed.

They are just opinions. You will have a great time at the Poly as it's a beautiful resort. Everyone is different and everybody has their own opinion on what is good and what is not. You've seen the pictures and have read the reviews and there are definetly ALOT more positive reviews than there are negative reviews.

Relax...enjoy your resort stay at the Poly and give us a trip resort when you return.

We were at the Poly in October, and had a wonderful stay! The CMs were friendly, at check-in and just walking around the resort, they were always ready with an Aloha! We didn't have any of the houskeeping problems that are so prominent on these boards. Our room was spotless.

With so many different resorts and so many guests, you can run into problems at any resort. Don't let them worry you. I'm sure that if I had gone to the Poly looking for something wrong, I could have found something wrong. Dust along the floor or trash cans too full. But when I am on vacation I am there to enjoy myself. Not to be a critic. Rest assured that if there was a major problem, I would say so. But we simply didn't have any problems.

The Poly has many great things to offer. Don't let a few bad reviews frighten you off.

I'm not worried at all. We've been there before and never had a problem. Sounds like housekeeping is the biggest issue lately, but I'm one to say something right away so the problem can be rectified. All the issues that people are having can happen anywhere.

I'm planning on going and having as much fun as we usually do at the Poly!

No way!!! I've never had a bad experience at the Polynesian. Everyone has different opinions and sensibilities, of course. I personally expect there to be a couple of things I may not be thrilled with on every vacation I go on. You'll notice that a lot of the folks who say that they have had a "bad experience" at a resort only really have 1 or 2 things they were dissatisfied with. I refuse to let a bellhop that made me "wait too long" or a rude waiter at a resort restaurant taint my entire opinion of a resort. Don't get me wrong, i'm not one of those Polynesian apologists that gets upset anytime someone knocks it. But there are rude and inefficient employees at every resort, every company in the world for that matter. People really need to get over the whole "the Polynesian costs so much so there should never be an excuse for (add problem here)". I've never encountered a rude CM at the Poly but I'm darn sure they exist, just like everywhere. The resort is beautiful. Fantastic themed pool. Perfect location. Wonderful transportation. Great restaurants. Wishes/EWP from the beach (or your room) every night. Castle view. Boating at the Marina. Monorail access. Ok, ok.....rant over! LOL:goodvibes

These posts have made me a little worried, but it is true that people tend to report more on the negitive. My thought is never know until you try. Our trip is just a short one-really meant to try out the resort and not do too much at the parks. All I really want is some relaxation, a clean room with a balcony, & some pleasant CMs. Of course I want things to work right in my room & if not, fixed. We don't do conceirge or use the valet & I carry my own bags to my room!! Just what I'm used too. I guess I'm not really expecting too much service wise. I just want the beauty & tranquility of the resort.

I'm not worried but am a little hesitant but we're still going to stay at the Poly. I think our biggest concern is making sure we get a convenient longhouse w/3 young kids. We did do a request but it is only a request so that makes me a little nervous (but this issue would come up at any resort).

I think if issues arise that are bothersome just speak up and let mgmt now about it. As far as housekeeping goes - as long as its clean when we get there and cleaned 1 or 2 times while we're there I'm fine. I don't need the beds made etc. everyday. As everyone else has mentioned everybody has different opinions and expectations.

Our first stay is in Sept/Oct - we're really looking forward to going to disney (first) and the Poly (second).

I'm a little nerved up about the room location also, but it is just that a request. I'm with you, make my bed & give DH some more coffee. I wouldn't want a gross room, but you're barely in it anyway, how dirty can you make it? When is your trip in Sept? Looks like we will be there at the same time-we are Sept28-Oct 2. I think I've seen pictures you have posted of the Poly before-they're always great! Hope all goes well for us both!!:wizard:

Yeah - as long as its clean when we get there I'm happy. If given the option I prefer not to have housekeeping come everyday because I don't really like the idea of someone else in our room (weird I know) and I like to leave things as I have them plus besides towels what do we really need. I like to be able to go back to our room at anytime and not worry about whether housekeeping has been there already. But maybe I'll request an early housekeeping as we'll be returning to our room after lunch.

We're going Sept 29-Oct 6 - it'll be our first trip to the Poly. Heres hoping we have a magical vacation! :wizard: I haven't posted any pics of the Poly but I am looking forward to doing that.

We are staying at Poly Aug 24-31. I am a little nervous about the bad reviews, but the resort is beautiful and we will have a great time.

I remember when there were so many bad reviews about BCV and we stayed there twice and had no problems.

I also requested to be near the pool and longhouse but if not no big deal. I cannot wait to get there put down my suitcase and be at MK within minutes. (give or take of course) Now that is heaven.:cloud9:

I'm not feeling down at all about all the seemingly 'bad' reviews about the Poly. I've had two great stays there within the span of the past 6 months and I'm looking forward to another one next month.:thumbsup2

People's opinions are exactly that--their opinion. Yeah, it can make you nervous and second-guess your choice but ultimately it's you who decide to either go by what other folks say or find out for yourself. :)

You can get bad service anywhere at Disney from the All-Star Resorts (which happened to me) to the Grand Floridian. No resort is perfect.

I am one of the people not to happy with the Poly, however, it was just the concierge I was not happy with. I loved the rest of the resort. I even had great housekeeping and was greeted by an Aloha by CM's outside of concierge. The Poly is beautiful. Just go with what you want, and don't think about everyone's reviews. I had seen many bad reviews on the Contemporary and avoided it for years. I finally went last March and loved it. Don't go with expectations one way or the other, and just enjoy yourself. Most people have a great time, it is a great resort. All of the resorts have had some problem at one time or another .

Sometimes, people carry their own "unhappiness", too.
As others have said, these are only opinions, and when you see the Poly grounds, and hear the music and the "alohas", I believe you will be able to lose yourself in it's magic! At least I hope so...

I'll be there the same time as you also! Sept. 28 - Oct. 4!:cool1:

I tend to wonder if all of the bad experiences are happening during the busy summer months. I know I don't like being hot and having to plow through tons of people, It may be making people extra sensitive about things they would normally let go. Also if the resorts are packed it may be alot harder for the CM's to keep up with all of the messes.

We returned from the Poly just over a week ago. We have stayed there many times with all different views/levels of service. It was an 8 day stay. We requested a particular building, but did not get that one. It didn't bother us too much however and we had a great stay in Tahiti. The room was fine, clean, and we love the new decor. I would not hesitate to stay there again. It is expensive, but if you would stay at the deluxe level anyway the Poly is my choice.

I think that everyone has different experiences, expectations, and needs on vacation. Unfortunately, most of the time when someone returns from a great trip they are less likely to post a report than someone who had a bad experience. Or at least it seems like it to me

I tend to agree with you here...a lot of the bad talk around here has to do with peoples expectations. I LOVE the Poly and until this past trip have never had anything bad to say about it. I can say there is definately a difference between this year and the last 3....feel free to read my TR (linked in my sig).

For us the resort was beautiful and I love it there, but the way the CMs were and their response to our room problems were flat astounding.

Hope all of you staying at the Poly love it as much as I did...and hopefully WDW steps up and fixes the problems we had...because I love it there and would love to go back.

Cheers,
Josh

Now that I see your post, I realize I got you confused with someone else. It is you that has shared great pictures of the Poly!! I'm really looking forward to our first stay there. I actually hope to get Tahiti myself. We booked garden view & I think the resort is beautiful enough that I won't feel bad about not paying for lagoon view. I would actually love to watch the monorail go by as well. All I really want is the third floor with some quiet. We don't really want to be in a high traffic area. Since you've been many times how does this sound for my requests. Tokelau, Tahiti, Rapa Nui or Aotearoa. We like to walk so proximity to GCH & pools are not an issue. Are these buildings popular? Just wondering what my chances would be of getting a third floor in one of these. Out of curiosity, what building or requests did you make for your trip?
