anyone else ever thought this would be a great idea?

Bowling has always had a bad reputation because of its direct association with drinking establishments, gambling and thugs. Most people would not encourage their children to spend too much time at a bowling alley. Disney sure doesn't want a bowling alley on property. :thumbsup2[/QUOTE
I think he was joking, maybe being sarcastic. I have never been to a bowling ally that serves alcohol

Lots of bowling alleys serve alcohol and drinking beer is certainly a part of the bowling "culture" for some. Maybe it's because we have many "upscale" bowling alleys around these days, but I've never considered the bowling alley to be a "seedy" environment.

The previous post about bowling's bad influence may have been a joke or sarcasm. My "rebuttal" was definitely 100% parody!

Someone has seen Kingpin one to many times!

All my drinking buddies down at the bowling alley say that Disney World has always had a bad reputation because of its direct association with heroin use and prostitution. They maintain that most people would not encourage their children to spend too much time at Disney World. The bowling alley sure doesn't want a Disney park near their property. :thumbsup2

I remember in my 12 year old league...I was 11 at the time...we smoked camels and drank Budweiser, the 13 year olds had to buy the pitchers cause the 12 year olds were not quite old enough...we also played texas holdem after league was over...I carried brass knuckles in my bowling bag cause you never know when us 12 year olds want to brawl....it happens...:rotfl::confused3

Don't really need to bowl in Orlando because we can (and do) bowl at home. We don't upgrade to thug level, though, and have to bowl thug-free.

In keeping with the rest of the WWoS, they should plan the area, build it, have it be real nice...and then not set it up so that anyone can do anything there. Just leave it sit empty. Kidding. Sort of.

Downtown Disney had an outdoor ice-skating rink at least once during the winter months. My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Disney and ice-skated one afternoon. It was a lot of fun and wonderful memories!

Am I the only one thinking "I can bowl at home anytime - why would I want to waste my Disney time bowling?"

Why do people go to the movie theater at DTD. :confused3

I would think of bowling as akin to the miniature golf courses, swimming at the resort or visiting water parks. You can do any of those at home too. Why do them at WDW -- theming of course!!!! :wizard:

Also, there are lots of families who visit Wide World of Sports for various events from soccer, baseball, football, cheerleading, etc. The other family members who are "stuck" there could bowl waiting for their older/younger sibling to participate in their event.

We're
rascals and
scoundrels, we're
villians and
knaves.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.
We're
devils and
black sheep, we're really
bad eggs.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

We're
beggars and
blighters and
ne'er do-well cads,
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

Aye, but we're loved by our mommies and dads,
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.

What? I can't think of any bowling alleys with thugs hanging around. :rotfl:

Are you a part of a Grease 2 cult following? :rotfl2:

Seriously?!??! I have never heard this from anyone before. Are you sure you are confusing the perception of "pool halls" with the perception of bowling alleys.

We still like to go bowling. Yes, there are usually people drinking beer at the bowling alley, but there are also lots of families just enjoying a fun pasttime. There's a lot of beer being served at baseball/football/basketball games and even at theme parks (including Disney). We personally don't drink, but I don't think the fact that some people are imbibing automatically means it's not a family friendly environment.

At baseball, football and basketball games none of the athletes are drinking beer on the sidelines. In bowling, it is common for the bowlers to drink alcohol every frame of every match. It is also common for bowlers to bet significant sums of money on the outcome of matches. The last two national championships were in Las Vegas and Reno for a reason. Oh yeah, the bowlers at the national championships can drink during their matches. Can you think of another sport that encourages its athletes to drink alcohol during competition? :drinking:

So are Pirates

Fictional pirates as opposed to real thugs. pirate:

Exactly my thought. But then again. I don't have any kids and when I go to Disney, im always on the go. Might be something to do for downtime? On a non park day or something? I certainly wouldn't spend the money to bowl in Disney.

Trouble, oh we got trouble,
Right here in River City!
With a capital "T"
That rhymes with "P"
And that stands for Pool,
That stands for pool.

Really? What bowling alleys have you been to lately?

We have three. They have none of those things. Well, two serve beer but are hardly a "drinking" establishment. The most successful of the three doesn't serve any kind of alchohol. Its 100% "family" oriented. And thugs? Really? I guess our "thugs" have better things to do:laughing:. I can't imagine any hanging around a bowling alley :confused3 If there is gambling, its not something that is widely shown to be happening and heck "under the table" gambling can go on anywhere.
