Having moved to the east coast from the west coast and having a lack of family here we have lost of holiday spirit. DH and I had hosted the holidays at our house for a number of years and enjoyed the craziness that came with cooking and hosting the meals. But alas we have decided that due to a lack of family we're eating out this year. Anyone else doing this?

We normally go out to Cracker Barrel with my ILs. This however, my folks are here. So we will be bringing the Cracker Barrel home to eat. :thumbsup2

This is the lst. year I am eating out. We moved from NJ to SC and all our family is in NJ we will go up at Christmas. We are leaving for Williamsburg, VA for a couple of days. My DH has eaten out in a restaurant before, but I really miss all the family being together and going nuts with the cooking!

How is Cracker Barrel for Thanksgiving, as of now we are eating at a buffet, but not sure my DS would like it. I did mention Cracker Barrel is it good for Thanksgiving?

:thumbsup2

Here’s what we’re serving:
Enjoy our turkey breast with made-from-scratch cornbread dressing and topped with turkey gravy. Served with a sampling of baked sugar-cured ham, sweet potato casserole with caramel pecan topping, cranberry relish, your choice of a vegetable and fresh biscuits or corn muffins, plus our very own Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Pie with real whipped cream and a beverage (excluding milkshakes).

Served Thursday, November 26th, beginning at 11a.m.
$8.99 Adult • $4.49 Child

It is really yummy. We never have room for the pie so we normally bring it home. The sweet potato casserole is really good!!

You can also order a bulk dinner to go. I just like to get the dinners so I don't even have to dirty serving utensils. :thumbsup2

Mimi's turkey dinner on the children's menu was pretty good. I would imagine their Thanksgiving dinner would be just as good. :)

Whether you cook or not has nothing to do with holiday spirit IMO. It sounds like you miss being with your large family, but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy spending a more low key day with an meal out.

Judging by all the restaurant ads for special menus and buffets for Thanksgiving it looks like lots of people do!

I think this year may be my last cooking a big Thanksgiving meal. It is just the two of us now and we may start eating out next year.

One of our great family traditions for Christmas was to go eat Chinese food for dinner when I was a child (we had the traditional meal around 1:00 pm) and this year I am starting that tradition again.:thumbsup2

While we lived away from home we took advantage of the holidays by cooking a meal that we might not have otherwise. The usual for a holiday away from family was Prime Rib. It's DH's favorite and too expensive to eat very often so I would make it for the holidays.

The last few years DH company had a couple of kids (early 20's) that moved down to Florida for work and only could go home for Christmas. We had them over for Thanksgiving and Easter many times.

We have been going out since Thanksgiving 07. My mum had already bought everything when my stepdad passed away less than a week before Thanksgiving 06, so that was the last year we cooked and ate at home.

I love it! No dishes, way less fuss, and the conversation is better because no one is jumping up to get the rolls!

We're going to Cracker Barrel this year and I am super excited. Usually the in laws are here and FIL refuses to go out to eat. This year we are meeting them in Disney on Sunday so we are free to go wherever we want on Thanksgiving.

I'm just thrilled to still be at the lake this late in the season..:yay::yay:

DD and I will be enjoying the special Thanksgiving menu at Portobello at DTD tomorrow!

We're going out to eat. It's just the two of us so it is much easier.

We did for the first time last year. I didn't see the point cooking for 4 people so we just went to Mimi's. It was super good!!!!! This year we are going to Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, we are excited!! I'm having the Creole turkey, DBF is having the Turducken, the girls will probably order from the regular menu as they aren't really big fans of turkey dinners. Works for us!! :)

I'm tired of cooking for the whole family every single year, next year we're taking everyone out to dinner for sure!!!

This is the last year I plan on ever hosting a holiday meal at my house. I'm burned out on the preparation and time it takes. From now on, we will go out for Thanksgiving and anyone that deisres can join us.
