Anyone else eat out on Thanksgiving?

We like the leftovers. But I haven't cooked a turkey in years for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. We have a restaurant here that you can order your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner from. The only thing I cook are the sides.

We order the desserts and the turkey and pick it all up the day before. We then heat the turkey on Thanksgiving or Christmas. It is so nice especially when I was working. I didn't have to worry about getting up early to cook the turkey or trying to get it done the night before.

Yes, most NYC people barely cook as it is. Our kitchens are so tiny and usually there are enough restaurants nearby to serve what you want. On Thanksgiving, there are so many tourists in town for the Macy's parade. None of them cook in their hotel rooms, so there are plenty of Thanksgiving Day specials at all the restaurants. It's kind of: point your finger and choose where you want to go and your price point.

I found a great restaurant years ago that serves absolutely the best stuffing. So we usually end up there.

We'll be eating out in NYC and staying overnight. I was surprised that the hotel prices weren't that bad. I thought maybe everyone left after the parade. :) We aren't coming in until after the parade mess. DH called Dave & Buster's to make sure it was open so he could play video games after dinner. I was surprised they would be open, but I forgot they have a restaurant as well.

Here in Las Vegas EVERY hotel's buffet is packed for Thanksgiving; and the fine dining reservations sell out! Last year we at at Lawry's and it was WONDERFUL. Cooking at home this year tho.

The last year before my father died, we ate Thanksgiving lunch at Sunset Station, then put DS into the Kid's Quest child care (he was 3 at the time); and I played slots & blackjack with my dad. Good times.

You really lucked out! You're coming in on one of the biggest tourist weekends in NYC. There's the parade on Thanksgiving. Ball games are huge at sports bars. Black Friday & Christmas shopping around the city. Then the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center on Wed.

Oh, do I wish!! Especially since DH is working all day and my own family is 900 miles away. But no, come to find out (this past weekend) that he invited his two bachelor cousins to our house for a home-cooked Thanksgiving. So, in addition to having to keep the kids busy all day, I have to cook a full on Thanksgiving meal.

Yes, I'm bitter, thanks for asking.

We usually don't but will today. My daughter is in culinary school and the restaurant they run will be open today so she has to work. We haven't seen her in almost 3 months and were disappointed to learn she couldn't come home for Thanksgiving. Sooo, we're going to her! I'm sure the food will be superb and we're spending the night in a hotel there (3 hours from us) so we'll get to spend tomorrow with her too. She is quickly learning that if she wants a career in the culinary business it will require working nights, weekends and holidays, but so far she loves it. It really is weird not shopping and cooking to feed an army though!
