Anyone else buy glow/led stuff ahead of time?

Im so thinking of going to Walmart now and picking some up. Theya re really expensive at the parks so if this is tradition and such, Im all in:rotfl:

In Canada you can always find the blinking Disney LED characters at the Dollarama. They usually have them by the cash - about 6 characters to pick from.

I just finished my shopping for this stuff, and I think I went a little overboard. Everything was so cheap and cool looking I kept adding things to my cart. Everything I bought was .70 to 1.19, and yet it added up to almost $40 (with shipping) oops. oh well, it wouldn't take long to spend that in the parks, and for only a few items instead of the 25 or so I got (75 if you count the box of glow sticks) . If we don't use it this year, we'll save it for next trip, or give it as gifts. I don't know if the kids will like them, but I'm sure having fun!

In shopping for this i also found and bought a green laser pointer. These used to be so expensive, but now they are only about $10 and they are so bright, the beam goes over 2 miles, and it has a very cool beam splitter that covers the entire room in rotating dots. The DW laughed at me for getting so excited about a gadget, but hey I'm still a kid at heart.

I'm so glad you posted this. DH & I were just discussing if we were going to run into any problems with airport or WDW security with these "glow" items. Has anyone run into any issues with airport security or gate check at the parks?

I don't think I've ever packed the glow items in my carry ons so i'm not sure about that, but it is certainly possible they may question them. As for the parks they don't have any problems with glow items. I've been taking glow stuff to the parks for years. Just did it tonight in fact. My kids love getting the necklaces and bracelets and they haven't even once asked for one of the expensive spinners and whatnots! :goodvibes

I plan to stock up. Our Dollarama had glow in the dark leis (just the necklace part between the flowers was glow in the dark). Was hoping to get them for our Ohana dinner / watch wishes from the Poly beach night. They're out right now, but I keep checking hoping they're going to stock some more!

I found a tube with 75 pieces in it yesterday at our Deals. It was $3 for the whole lot. That should keep us well covered with pieces to share on our upcoming trip!

WOW that's a great deal. I think I paid $7 for a tube of 50 online, but they are the tri-color ones. I don't know that that will make them any more exciting to the kids though.

The last two trips we went right after Easter, so quess what the Easter Bunny always brought for us to take to Disney. I love the dollar store and last year they even had swords and wands that glowed.

Much cheaper than the ones they sell at the park.:goodvibes

I just bought some last week at the Dollar store they had really pretty wands with stars, animals etc at the top had I never seen those and bought a few, and already tucked them away in our Disney container:goodvibes

I just went to The Dollar Tree here in Alabama yesterday to get our glow stuff. I got the usual glow necklaces & bracelets but they also had some glow masks! I got my girls a 'butterfly' and maybe cat eyes(?). Can't remember exactly but I know one was a butterfly. They had masks for boys too.
Could someone share a site where they found the glowing hair braids? My girls would be all over that! Thanks.

Thanks for all the tips everyone!:thumbsup2 Our trip is coming up in December-a perfect time to use glow items-gets darker quicker!!!!:cool1: Dollar Tree here I come!:woohoo:

Yes!! I do this. I get glow and LED items. I have found glow stuff in Target's dollar bins and at the Dollar Tree. I also get them on sale after Halloween at Target or Wal-whatever :) As for the LED items (and some glow stuff), I order it at glowsource.com. This year I got LED necklaces, sticks, sunglasses and of course our favorite - glowcubes (glowing "ice" cubes)!!!

Just a warning on the glow stuff. It is non-toxic but they do have glass in them and if you break them a certain way, they will break through the plastic. So I opened up some glow sticks for my kids the first night of our trip last year and it exploded on me and my son. We were glowing from head to toe and it got in our EYES :scared1: It didn't do anything harmful. We washed everything off and by the end of the night we stopped glowing so much and even our clothes weren't permanently damaged (which surprised me). So from now on, I will activate the 'glow' sticks away from our faces, away from the children, and with a gentler touch! And I'll invest in the LED items more than the glow items! They last more than one night anyway :thumbsup2
