This restaurant is similar to N.Y.C eateries where you are often seated right next to another group of diners. Last time we visited there was another couple two feet from our table. They were actually asking questions about my dish, which I was not unhappy to answer. (It was excellent) Request a table with a bit of privacy if that kind of thing bothers you, or dine during slower times. You can also sit outside at Portobello with a water view, and if it is a nice night, I highly reccomended it.
It's been a while since we ate there ('97), but we had a great meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. As I remember, the bruchetta was great as was the cappicino ice cream dessert. We thought is was our best meal in the Pleasure Island area, having not enjoyed Fulton Crab House a previous evening. I also remember it being a bit more upscale than other places, and I was glad that I had dressed up for the evening.
Portobello is a fine restaurant. Don't worry about dressing up--many do, and just as many don't. We always go in theme park casual attire. No one is even going to notice how you are dressed.
Tables are a bit close, I guess, but nothing like Alfredo's. You can check out the menu to see prices, etc. It is upscale in the sense of the kind of food they offer--
I believe it's the best restaurant in the DD area.
One of my favorites, and we go each time we visit. We get souvernier glasses and a percentage off, because we are DC members, and are staying in Dis using our AmEx (for now, anyway). The roasted garlic and bread they start you out for is wonderful...I could fill up just on that (my poor hubby gets to smell it all day!). All of the food we have tried there has been great.
