We were planning to fly with her next year, but I think we will have to help the extended family with driving. We are coming from the Midwest, about 1200 miles. We will have our then-2-year-old with us. Is this a disaster waiting to happen if we split driving in to 2 days?

my 2 suggestions would be 1 make sure you stop early enough to allow 2 year old to run around or swim before bedtime and 2 no crayons in the car. we have driven with a 17 month old from Pa, granted not the same but close in mileage. granted it was not a Disney trip but we had a crayon get lost in a carseat during a lunch break. when we got back in car it was still not seen and child clothes were cover in melted crayon as was the carseat. we had to replace carseat which was not planned.

I'm in St. Louis and we've driven twice. Once when DS was 13 mos, DD 3 and last summer when DS was 3 and DD was 6. The first trip down we stopped in Tifton, GA around 11 pm. HUGE HUGE mistake. Neither child wanted to go back to sleep after already being asleep in the car. So on the way back we drove straight through (got back home around 4:30 am). Last summer's trip we drove straight through again, but this time was both ways. We left at like 6 am from St. Louis and got into Orlando around midnight. What I have learned is either stop a lot earlier...like around dinner time. Or go straight through but leave insanely early in the morning.
