SWA prices are killing me plus I'd need a rental car. So it seems like it would be far cheaper to drive :drive: I fyour from Long Island ~ have you driven?? How long do you take?? Where do you stop the 1st day? What time do you get to WDW the 2nd day?? Do you stop somewhere else on the way home????Thanks so much. I flew once 10 years ago but that was BC (before children). Is it terrible???

I would love to know the same thing. I think we are driving in June. Right now the flights for the 4 of us are $1200, I'm used to spending under $1000.
How old are you kids?

We drove down for the 1st time in Feb 2009 although we only made it as far as Universal.

We left LI around 10:30pm on a Wed night. I drove to the 1st rest stop in VA where we switched drivers. We were planning on stopping overnight somewhere in SC but when we reached South of The Border by 8:30am we changed pland and went to Burnswick, GA. Arrived around 3pm Thurs. This left about 4-5 hours to drive on Fri.

This year we plan on leaving at about the same time on a Fri, but driving to Savannah, GA. I figure on arriving at Disney at about 2pm on Sun. The kids will be 7 & 11. On the way home we will be stopping at Natural Bridge, VA for two nights for two reasons. One, who wants to rush home. I did not want to take I95 all the way back north as I have never had a good drive through DC when travelling north. Since I was going to take the I81 route home Natural Bridge is as good a place as any to stop.

I have driven 3x from Connecticut, leaving between 4 and 5 am, it been quite a few years but I know we drove for 10 - 11 hours stopping not far over the border in North Carolina. Up and on the road by 5 or 6 and made it to our resort in Disney by around 3 pm.
Our first year we made a bad mistake of stopping in DC for a quick look see around and a few pics and did not make it to the hotel in NC till around midnight.
