DH and DS#1 were talking about renting a paddleboat at Castaway Cay... anyone have some pictures they can share?? I'd like to take a look before we go! Also I saw that there are both 2-seaters and 4-seaters.

Also if you've done the paddle boats, can you tell me about them? Like do you need to reserve them in advance, and if not, where do you go to get them? Thanks.

I don't have any pictures, but we have done this both times to CC as my oldest DS enjoys it. They have two types -- a two person paddleboat that has a small deck on the back for someone else to "ride". The other are the big watertrykes. Both are slow and difficult to move around if the kids are small. My 11 and 9 year old DS's at the time were able to control the two person paddleboat with me riding behind, but it was slow. You have a roped off section next to the snorkling area, but it does let you get fairly "close" to the Flying Dutchman. There's no need for reservations -- just walk over to the area and give them your KTTW card for payment, sign the waiver, grab a lifejacket and you're off. Because these aren't used heavily, they've always let us be out for much longer than alloted time. Personally, the banana boat was much more fun!

I did the water "trike" with my then 10 year old daughter...it is slow going...if you're not pedaling, you're not going. If it's windy, you also have to contend with the wind.

Thanks for the replies. DH and DS#1 (almost 12) could probably manage the two person together, then. DS#2 will likely be with the Lab folks all day which means I can find a chair and relax! Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some shots of the water trike. We rented two and had fun. slow going (it was windy too) but still worth a shot.

We rented the 2 person paddle boat that had the extra room in the back for someone else to ride...it was a LOT of work! Me and my sister were pedaling, and we are not in bad shape, but we had to take rest breaks...haha. Of course my boyfriend sat in the back, which of course we hadn't realized that the person in the back doesn't have to do any of the work! There are also a lot of areas in the water that are very shallow, even far out, and someone actually had to come out on a waterski and push us out because we got so stuck! The water tryke looks fun though, I don't know because I've never been on one, but I would guess the banana boat might overall be more enjoyable, maybe we will try that the next time! The pedal boats aren't bad if you are looking for a really good workout, but we had something more enjoyable/relaxing in mind! I wouldn't recommend having young children do the pedaling...

I am in pretty good shape and so is my 13yo Daughter. I agree with you that it is a work out and you do not go any where fast.
