Anyone doing the Wine & Dine Half Marathon??

At first they had said Jan 1, 2010. Now it just says Jan 2010. I keep checking back daily. :Patiently crossing fingers:
I bet we'll be able to get some answers this weekend about when the 5k will open.

There's a slight chance I may do the 5K. Not sure I'm up for a half marathon. I really want to be able to run the whole thing so a 5K for me is more appealing.

Come on ADP. Suck it up and run the Half with us. :)

Or if you are concerned you can't do the half, get a partner and do the half relay!!!

Like others, the relay option makes it more appealing (for me). My understanding is the first team member runs 5.1 and the 2nd runs the last 8 miles.

::yes::

First runner starts with the people dong the whole half does 8K. At that point they enter the transition area and the second runner does the last 13K. The first runner is transported back to the finish area where they can wait for the second runner and get a photograph together after if they would like.

I am not sure exactly how Disney will handle the transition area but the best way is to have someone a half mile or so up the road with a walkie talkie or microphone calling the number of approaching relay runners so the only runners who have to be inside the transition area are the ones about to run. That keeps it clear and keeps the first runner or second from having to keep an eye out the whole time.

This Half-relay is really appealing. I am currently planning on doing the 5K, but might be able to be convinced to do the half relay if I had a partner. ;)

I hope someone will be planning some DIS meets!

Dh and I registered this weekend, so it's official. We are both running the full 13 miles. I can't wait! We already have reservations for POFQ. I just have to book our airfare :)

I signed up on Saturday. I am NOT a runner, the most I have run was 2.5 miles in my old Air Force days in my 20's. I will be 45 for the Half Marathon and I am really looking forward to it. I found a 15 week training schedule on the disney website that I am following, I should be up to 3 miles on Saturday. :scared1:

Hey, I'm walking it! Maybe a little jogging thrown in when I get excited. :goodvibes

That's a quick regiment! I'm starting out smaller, and trying to work my way up to longer distances. Right now I'm seriously considering a 5K in early June which is being held at a local airport.

I've been checking the site every day because I don't want to miss registration for it!

I asked on the WISH boards if anyone heard any more info on the 5K and this is what geaux_half posted:

From last Thursday's Endurance Series Live Chat:

Katie (Baltimore, MD): When will registration for the Halloween 5K open?

Heather: MIckey's Halloween 5K online registration will open the beginning of February.

If you haven't run any organized event I would highly recommend finding a local event and signing up. It will give you the experience of what all is involved and you'll get the experience of seeing how different competing is when compared to training. It will also give you a chance to make any "rookie mistakes" or alter your plan before you have paid hundreds of dollars to learn something the hard way at Disney. Almost all the local events are for some charity or another so you also get to add some karma points.

Also, if you know the name of the charity the race is for save your receipt, the registration fee might be tax deductible. I didn't realize it until I found a tax guy that was also a runner. :thumbsup2

SO how quickly do I need to sign up for these? I am planning on doing the 5K, but am still kind of kicking around doing the relay (I'd need a partner though).

Do I need to just bite the bullet and sign up for the 5K, or would I be OK waiting a few weeks to decide?

Are there any advantages to signing up early for either?

Mrs d.... I am in the same position... Perhaps you want to partner on the relay???? I was planning on the 5k, but figured I'd just train my rear off and accomplish the goal of the half, but if you are looking for a relay partner, pm me!

I just PM'd you!

Being the first year it is hard to say how quickly the race will fill up. If Disney follows the same formula as they do with their other events as soon as the event reaches 50% capacity they will start to post it on the registration page. It counts up from 50% to 99% and then shows the race is full (or closed).

I am still in the air on the half and will be doing it if the world aligns right for me. I'm closer to doing it then not but $100 for a 5K is just out of the question.
