I've never participated before and would like to hear from people who have or are planning to. I don't find the Walk Now website to be very informative.

I feel like I am the only person on this planet doing this walk. :confused3

Hi there  ! What a great event to be involved with. I never heard of this before and there isn't one anywhere near us. But maybe next year.....

I am doing it too. But this is my first year also. So I cant help with questions so much. We are doing our walk in Sept. So maybe I can let you know how it goes from there.

Have a great day.

It would be great if we could plan for a big DIS group in 2007!

This years walk is on Nov. 18th at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex but there are locations all over the country like lovemickeya's walk in September.

Maybe next year we can plan a little bit and have a big DIS Team for the Orlando Walk! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

We did the Walk Now last year in New York. It was a fun morning - great weather and lots of time for the kids on the moon bounces. It was the inaugural walk in NY, so there wasn't a HUGE crowd, unlike the Walk for Autism Research that we participated in this past June, which attracted thousands of people and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Autism Speaks.

P.S. I don't think you'll be the only person walking in FL if you decide to participate this year! :)

We did the walk a few months back in Pasadena, California. I admit that I cried when I saw all of the people. It felt wonderful to see so many people who care about this cause. Sometimes I feel like we are the only family dealing with autism, so to see that large crowd made us feel less alone and more part of a community!

One suggestion that I have is if you will be taking an autistic person with you, please have a back up plan if he/she doesn't do well with the crowd. We ended up only completing 2 of the 3 laps because ds melted down and we had to get out of there pronto!

Have a great time at the walk! :sunny:

I am walking in Long Island this October with Autism Speaks and N.A.A.R. (Formerly the walk was titled 'walk far with naar'). This is my first year and I am so excited! :Pinkbounc Last week I went to a kick-off luncheon and was amazed at the recognition autism research has been getting! Did anyone see the teen choice awards a few weeks ago? That young man with autism who won the basketball game for his high school was there wearing a puzzle piece pin (on national tv!!!). Also the rice krispies boxes now have autism awareness stuff on them! We are making great strides!

Good luck at your walk, I would love to go, but unfortunately I live in ny and won't be able to fly down.
