I'm finishing week 3 and LOVING it. Summer was just too hot for me to do any kind of outdoor exercise other than swimming so I gave up on the whole running idea, but now that it's cooler here I've been really getting into this program. I've tried other ones, but the difference this time is that I'm going totally non-pressure. I'm outside instead of on a treadmill so I feel no pressure to go at a certain speed. No matter how slow I run, I'm still faster than I was sitting on the couch. I've been going up every week, but if I find that I need more time on a level, I'm going to take it. It's become the best part of my day, and the best days of my week.

Even at this early stage, my pants already feel looser! :yay:

I hope you check back, I see you posted this a few days ago.

I read RYBO on my Nook and liked it so much I just ordered the actual book and am expecting it this week. I look forward to using the worksheets in it.

I am on week #7. I started the C25K program many months ago and had to stop 2x due to injury. It wasn't until I read RYBO that I realized I was running too fast/hard for my fitness level. I really like how the RYBO writers encourage you to go very slow. I followed their advice and although I'm pokey, I burn mega calories and have increased my fitness level tremendously. I couldn't jog an entire 1/4 mile when I started and can easily jog 1 mile now.

I think RYBO is an excellent book for new runners. I bought a popular Jeff Galloway book also but didn't realize he has a specific method that incorporates walking, even at advanced levels. The premise of his method is alternating walking and running. He advocates continuing this walk/run plan forever. Frankly, I want to run and only walk when I must (or when the RYBO program tells me to).

Anyway, lots of luck to you!!!

You might also want to look into signing up for a 5K. Disney has one coming up in January. I found that even though I couldn't run the entire 3+ miles, just having that 5K date set kept me motivated.

I did my first 5K Oct. 1st (in Disney's AK). I liked it so much I signed up for a local Turkey Trot 5K on T-giving, a December 5K and another Disney 5K in January.

You don't have to be able to jog the whole course. You'll probably find just as many walkers as joggers. Plus, you'll see people you never would consider runners, smoke you, LOL. <<---that's inspiring. I think someone in a foot boot beat me in the Disney 5K although I did beat Batman, LOL...if you were there, you KWIM.

I have read both books, the Galloway and RYBO. I like both of them alot. I feel like any book that helps you run better and eat more healthy is a plus. The Galloway plan in my opinion is great because I could always push harder since I know I had a walk break coming up soon. I like all the personal stories is RYBO. Its a toss up for me. Congrats and keep us posted!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I also tried C25K and got sidelined by an injury. I kept thinking that I must need a "Floor to 5K" because "Couch to 5K" was too advanced for me. :) I just bought the book this week and I'm on Week 1.

I'll be following along, and I can't wait to hear more about your progress. It really does help motivate others who are following in your footsteps. In fact, one of my favorite blogs to follow is by PrincessAndrea'sMom....small world!

Good luck - and thank you for sharing your updates!
