Anyone do Atkins diet while eating at Disney?

We are going to WDW in June, and we have the DP and all our ADRs. I love food, and it shows! :lmao: I am currently doing the Atkins diet, and I looked at menus online and I think I can stay on the wagon... The desserts will be the hard part.

Anyone ever go to WDW while on the Atkins? How'd you do? Did you find enough of the 'right food' to eat?

TIA!

It's best to get the servers to help you out as much as possible. Tell them you want no bread on the table, and if you order a sandwich or a burger, ask just for the meats and cheeses -- request the bun be left in the kitchen. Same with any starches that might be included with a meal. If they make it to the table you might be tempted with an "oh,well, I'm on vacation" attitude.
And tell them why -- most of them have heard of the Atkins Diet, so they might be able to make some suggestions.
Good luck! Atkins works great if you stick to it. (Drink lots of water!)

Turkey legs are awesome and offered at all (?) the parks. There should be nuts in the snack shops, salads with protein at lunch time, and breakfast/dinner is easier. Definitely can be done!

I've been on the Atkins WOL for six years. Been to WDW several times and have no problems eating there. Have a wonderful trip!

Best thing about WDW--you walk about 5-10 miles per day. LOTS of calories burned!!!

This actually is a good point...

Last year, we did 3 days in Disney, a week with family, and then 6 more days in Disney. I tried to stay on it as best I could, but I did have a few splurges...

I had ribs at Cosmic Ray's several times, BBQ sauce was my concern, but it really wasn't much at all. But the ribs were great! Served with green beans... skipped the potatoes. Also did chicken there... same deal with sides. Had I thought of it, I would have requested extra green beans or see if I could get a side of apples (I shared apple slices with my boys a couple of times... tiny splurge on Atkins...)

Pecos Bill's... taco salad! Got it with just lettuce and beef and cheese and onions. I also added some of the cheese sauce they have at the fixins table. Overall not bad... just don't eat the shell it comes in... (I had to save some of my salad for later because there was so much!)

Epcot... Sunshine Seasons! I had a pork chop with a side salad and carrots, though I decided not to eat all the carrots as they seemed to be honey-glazed... maybe I ate two. You can also get this meal with chicken.

A couple places I had a hamburger without the bun (actually, dh would get a double burger meal & I'd just take one of the patties off to hold me over) ... and I also had a hot dog once or twice, using the bun as a holder, but sliding the meat through.

We did Trail's End Buffet at Ft. Wilderness for a late breakfast. So we paid breakfast price, I got my eggs, bacon, & sausage... then lunch was brought out which I enjoyed as well. I had some deli meat, cheese, and beef (sort of stew-like), along with some string beans and salad. Added note... Trail's End is the most economical buffet in WDW... not as many choices as other places, but still enough to choose from that I didn't mind!

We did Biergarten once too. Lots of sausages and meats to choose from here... in fact, I remember mostly meats and don't remember much veggie (though there must have been some on my plate). The highlight was when I asked about a sugar free dessert option... our waiter said there was no SF option on the buffet, but he brought me out a piece of sf cheesecake from the back... HEAVEN! Incredible!!! I ate the whole thing! (If you're concerned about carbs, don't eat the crust!) SF cheesecake without crust really isn't many carbs... it's probably one of the best options you have for a dessert...

I microwaved eggs and sausage in our room each morning for breakfast, so that kept our cost for food down. (We stayed at a DVC studio then.)

And at one point, hubby's grandpa made chicken parm. I had several meals of that (with breading) but avoided his side of pasta. I believe there are several places you could actually get chicken parm in the parks too.

As for my real splurges... I had an ice cream sundae... full sugar ice cream with peanut butter & fudge one night. I had a bag of cheetos another time. And about 1/4 of a funnel cake. Plus I had an order of chili cheese fries, a diet coke float, and a slice of full-sugar triple chocolate cheesecake (not in Disney).

...and the verdict? After the two week vacation with all those splurges, I gained 1 1/2 pounds. I went immediately back on induction and lost all 1 1/2 pounds in 3 days!

We did walk A LOT while we were away... and that shows how much of an impact walking has!

At Christmas time here at home, I went a whole week with several similar splurges (maybe a few more), but didn't walk much at all... I gained about 8 pounds in that one week. I'm still struggling to get it all off (I since splurged on a weekend in Atlantic City too! Oh, the guilt!) But of course, my walking routine when down the tubes over the entire winter too!

Anyway... my point... don't stress too much. Do the best you can but allow yourself a little room for splurges, especially if you've walked a lot that particular day. I still can't believe how little I gained (and how quickly it was gone) with that 2-week trip last year!

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much to all who replied! I am feeling more optomistic about this!
