Can anyone out there tell me if they have scuba dived on the Wall in the Cayman's? With what Dive operation did you go? Were they professional? And most importantly, how well maintained was their equipment? Any and all input/advice on diving in the Cayman's would be appreciated. Thank you very much. I would love to go, but I am hesitant with not using my own equipment and being unfamiliar with the dive operators. Also wondering if anyone on the August 17th cruise is planning on diving the wall. ~ Liz :)

I reeeealllly can't wait to gooooooo! :D

Red Sail was the operator on the 5/11 cruise when we were in GCY.

Good operation and the rental equipment looked to be in good condition. We used our own equipment.

You will get an 80ft dive on the wall by 7 Mile beach and the a shallow dive. Ours was on the Oro Verde. Interesting wreck.

First dive was guided and second was on your own.

Scott,

Thanks for the information! When you say the second dive was "on your own", will they pair you up with a buddy? I am the only one diving in my family. Are you allowed to bring your own TANK on the cruise? What CAN'T you bring on board of your own equipment? Sorry for all the questions

~ Liz :)

A tank is a pain to travel with unless you are driving and then it is still a pain. Use theirs as it is the best, as well as their weights.

On your own is with a buddy.

No dive knives allowed on the boat and they do xray the luggage.

I spent a week in Cayman diving with Bob Soto's and thought they were a great operation. I had my equipment so I am not sure about the rentals. When I am going to dive while cruising I generally just take my regulator. It's too much of a hassel to take the rest for a few dives.

We went on a 3 day in November 2001. My DH had his large dive knife (don't ask what large is, I don't really know, it's his description!). When we got back to our cabin later in the day, we had a message that my DH had to go down to security about his bag. They just made him identify what it was, and he showed the confirmation of his dive ressies in Nassau, and he was able to bring the bag back to the room (or maybe they delivered it, can't remember).

I thought FOR SURE being so close after 9/11, they would confiscate the knife till the end of the trip, but he said they were very accomodating. This, after they made us open up our carry-on for cuticle scissors at embarkation!!!

Just a little extra info, but you may want to double check with DCL if you want to bring a knife. DH says it is a necessity.

Have a great trip!!!
