I read a post on a Facebook group that self parking is closed, they are installing gates. Valet parking only until March 1, hotel guests free.

I saw a rumor on another facebook group a couple of weeks ago that WDW was going to start charging $25 for self parking, $50 for valet. Seems outrageous. As long as hotel guests are free, I'm fine with it.

I hope they finally address the parking issues at the BWV. We stay there multiple times per year, and I am so tired of having to park out by the road and walk by an almost empty valet lot on the huge hike to the villa. The valet parking lot is way too big and the parking lot for DVC members is way too small.

And to add insult to injury, you have to watch the close-in self parking lot empty out after Illuminations

IMHO, it's past time for Disney to do something about parking at the BWI/BWV.

The parking at BW is why we no longer own there or stay there. The same problem is growing at BCV and Poly and soon we be much worst at WL.

If the rumors are true, this gated system will be coming to all the resorts.

I had a car at BWV in October and was surprised not to have any problems.

I will be checking into BWV tomorrow. I have a rental car and thinking now whether to go ahead and return it before I check in !

i parked there Saturday night. we had no reservations there and were staying at the Treehouses. I told the CM at the both that we were going to check out the things on the boardwalk and she let us right in.

Let us know what you find out.

Other people reported parking there Saturday night but the person who said about the gates said it was since Feb 1. Something doesn't add up.

We normally visit in Oct. and a few times were in the back lot, but more so up in the front lot. We also might move the car once during our stay. Has anyone ever see the Valet lot filled or close to it? I've also mentioned a few times at the front desk about how there are many cars leaving the lot after Illuminations, even to a manager and pretty much the same response of some people are at the resturants and that they are aware of some people don't belong parking there, and they are working on the problem. I haven't mentioned this to the desk or Manager in years, but they still must be working on it !

We self-parked at BWV from 2/5-8 and had no problems, thankfully. I was worried after hearing a lot of stories of no parking spaces available.

Sounds like another nice freebie Disney does "free parking for people visiting the resort (NOT THE PARK)" will be going away because people abuse it. Such a shame. Maybe for the people "visiting the resort (IE Not staying there)" they should give a 2 hour parking pass. If you truly are only visiting the resort, 2 hours should be plenty and isn't long enough to visit the parks. Security already takes your license when you enter the lot, so they can also link it to your car. If your car is in the lot beyond the 2 hours, Disney puts your license on a ban list where they don't let your car in any resort free parking again (unless you are staying there).

Probably more work than charging everyone to park at the resort but I am getting sick of people beating the system and ruining it for everyone. See Disney's old disabled rider program for another program that was abused and Disney removed it.

I'm a BWV owner and yes, I agree the parking is abused. But, they have Jelly Rolls, ESPN (games can go on for hours), great restaurants, magic shows and jugglers on the Boardwalk -- it has become a destination point in WDW. I won't pretend to have a solution, but charging those who are not resort guest might be a way to encourage visitors to use the Disney transportation.

Any updates? According to the rumor posted on Facebook (which I don't totally believe), the gates were supposed to be in by today.

Well there's a new rumor I have never once heard.

Also I've never experienced it.

I read that post as something the poster thinks Disney could/should do to discourage those who use BW lots to avoid parking at EPCOT or DHS. Don't believe this was ever a rumor.

I have never had any Security guard take down my license when entering a resort lot. Never. In fact, we just have a 30 second chat -- I have dinner reservations, I'm going to the gift shop, whatever....and I'm happily waved through. If this Security procedure is true, then I contend it is unenforceable.

Again, I believe the visitor parking at the resorts is being abused and just maybe a nominal parking fee would be enough to deter it.

But it's a very good bet that there's a security camera capturing it as you drive in.

Maybe they will put license plate scanners on the security vehicles.
