Every diapering website I've read says 1 tablespoon and no more, thoughI was using like half a capful of Sun when I first had DD, and I had buildup issues. Our water is fairly hard (although better than at our last house). We don't have a front-loader, though. That does change things, but I'm not sure how. If you use more detergent, do you do an extra rinse at the end of the load or something?
I do two full wash cycles. First one with detergent, and the second one without detergent (but sometimes with Calgon water softener, which helps rinse out any excess detergent). I know what most of the websites say, but I've also been cloth diapering for 4 years between two kids, and know that there's no way that such a small amount of detergent would get their dipes clean in the water that we have.

It's not that it's that hard or gross...I just would rather not bring all that stuff on vacation. Just a personal preference.
