Anyone Cancel their Cable?

I'm calling cable today to get rid of our HD DVR programming. I'll have to drop off the equipment and get a new remote. Some of the remote buttons don't work.

Last time I tried to get rid of HD, they lowered the price and we had that for six months. We'll see what they do this time.

I've been thinking about also dropping my cable and getting a roku. Does anyone know if Roku supports HBOGo? One of the few shows that I enjoy watching is Game of Thrones.

Yes, you can access HBO Go on Roku - keep in mind, you have to subscribe to HBO to have a login for HBO Go.

Thanks. That makes sense I suppose but is still slightly annoying. You still need to have basic cable and an hbo subscription in order to use hbo go. Doesn't that rather defeat the purpose or am I just confused? :confused3

I cannot. I have DirectTV. It depends on your cable / satellite company.

I have ATT Uverse and I believe that is supported. I hope so, as its a lot cheaper then TimeWarner Cable and more reliable too. :)

Netflix is awesome. I use Unblock-US to switch from the UK Netflix which is awful to the US one which has a MUCH better selection.

Im too much of a cable news junkie to cut cable. Until the news organizations start streaming the news, I will probably just pay the cable bill like a sucker.

I have everything needed to install a digial antenna on my home in my wishlist on Amazon right now. My contract is up in Aug., so by-by charter cable and your horrible pricing and service!!:woohoo:

I'm pretty sure that's HBO's criteria. Why would they want to allow anyone who doesn't pay for the programming access to it online?

I'm sure it is. You'd just think you would be able to pay for HBOGo separately instead of it having to be tagged on to a subscription. If I already have HBO on my tv, chances are I'm not going to use the HBOGo feature at all. But that's just me.

Actually up to this past May, HBO stated that it wouldn't offer HBOGO to non subscribers (when it first launched). However, they are reconsidering per a recent REUTERS article. Here is the link:

Edited: I also dropped cable 2 years ago when my bill hit $200/month and that was with NO premium channels. I have 2 ROKU devices that I use and have Netflex, Huluplus and Amazon Prime. Between just these 3 options, there is enough TV viewing.

I believe that HBO is realizing there is a whole untapped segment of people, such as myself, that would like this service but do not/and will not have cable.

HBO Go is already available in europe without a cable subscrption. If that were to be available in the US, we'd be all over it, depending on the cost.

It is on the roku and on apple TV. I suspect the apple TV update was possibly a prelude to having it be available as a separate service.

I wouldn't pay more than $5 or $6 a month. Considering I already have Netflix, Amazon and Hulu plus.
