Just bought a vehicle with a salvage title last month, so no long term feedback on this one, but we saved a very nice chunk of change over anything even remotely close as far as make, model, mileage. The vehicle we bought was rebuilt after an accident. Of course we did a lengthy test drive and had a trusted mechanic check it over thoroughly. It drives beautifully, checked out with the mechanic, and no registration or insurance issues, and we're very happy with the purchase so far.
We've purchased a lemon law buy back and a former rental car in the past as well, so clearly we don't have an issue buying vehicles other people may balk at.
If we were like friends/family who flip vehicles every couple of years because they always want the latest and greatest we wouldn't even consider any of the above because it definitely impacts resale value. But we tend to keep our cars long term and drive them into the ground, so getting the best possible price makes sense for us.
