Anyone buy a Use Year you did not want ?

Yes. I bought a 50 point VGC contract, which was the only one available at the time. But I finally found one that matches the UY of my other 2 contracts and sold the original VGC one (at a loss, but at the same price I bought the second one for - still lost out bc of sales commission, but it was worth it to me to have all of my contracts in the same UY and under the same member # ).

Really the UY for us is more so about one that will never be in the middle of a stay. I dont want to cross over that UY switch.

Other than that in the end if I couldn't go then I would be renting out the room likely anyways and banking extra points that I can.

When we accumulated extra points (thanks Covid ) I booked a stay that crossed my use year to use up expiring points - it was a bit complicated & MS had to complete it for me, but other than fretting something would come up & we’d need to cancel & likely lose the expiring points in the old use year part of the reservation it wasn’t too bad.

Our BLT contracts are Feb UY, not what I wanted because I wanted April to match our BRV. But after waiting for 2+ months, I gave up on April for two reasons.

1. The is the main reason - I did some research and realized BLT April UY has VERY little contracts and that will make add-ons very painful. We only have 75 points now, one contract is 50 and the other is 25. My plan is to continue adding more later as we approach BRV expiration. Feb is the most available UY for BLT, so we will definitely have more options anytime we want to add more points.

2. Feb and April is only 2 months apart, and we like going to WDW mostly in May, so that works too. We actually don't have any travel restrictions and we can go anytime, but the weather and points charts wise, May is ideal for us. Our last trip was actually in late Feb through first week of March, and we enjoyed it too. So in the end it works out for us.

For your situation though, I would wait for the UY that makes more sense for your travel time.

Me. I made my first ever DVC purchase after trying to find a really good Feb use year. I ended up purchasing an April UY and it’s actually worked out a lot better for my travel habits!

Fully loaded, available to book would be the best year for me. I have a Dec Dw, Feb Au, June DL and Sept. DW. I did my two same-resort contracts in same use year but otherwise I don't think it makes a difference because I'll be using my points at the specific resort I bought it at. I will be borrowing or banking and booking way in advance so it has not really become a factor yet.

We bought a loaded contract before we knew why a good UY was important to have, it was a June UY and our kids have spring break in April. We eventually sold that contract for a February UY contract, which cost us a little bit more than if we had done our research better. It was our first DVC contract so we still didn't understand the system that well.

THIS! Before I understood the importance of use year I bought June. Good price all the points. Fast forward and we travel in May. So far we have not had to cancel a trip, but it will be bad if I ever have to, I have small contracts. The resale one was so cheap compared to now, I am stuck with it. The direct points were too much back then to bother selling now. Need to buy a bigger contract in March or April UY and use the June UY in the fall. lol

We did, but we sold it and made a profit. We only had if for like a little over a year, so I don't think I can really say one way or the other as to if we liked having two different use years or the same.
