Anyone bring their bikes to Disney?

I know that if you rent a bike at the Boardwalk Community Hall, you are permitted to ride them on the path around Crescent Lake and to Epcot/DHS, but you are not allowed to park the bike anywhere. You cannot ride your bike to a park and lock it up there. Disney Security has and will destroy your lock and confiscate your bike if you try to do this. You are not allowed to ride rented bikes on the roadways either. They are pretty strict about this.

Actually, I've heard that bicycling on the main roads (between resorts and parks) is prohibited! There are many roads with no passable shoulders. Hopefully in the future (as the US continues to get more interested in energy conservation and sustainable modes of transportation), Disney will take the opportunity to invest in some terrific bike infrastructure. They're already experts at designing for the pedestrian scale (the parks).

I'd be worried about critters with big teeth riding around the roadways at WDW.

I can just picture you walking your bike down the hallway at BW :rotfl2:

popcorn::

I have taken my bike to FW, and to WL/VWL. I never felt self conscious taking my bike through the hallways at WL or VWL. I would lock it to a piece of furniture in the room when going out for the day, and never had an issue with it. Of course, it's not some fantastic super duper bike - just your average run of the mill one.

I think the FW/WL/VWL area is really the best one for bicycling, if you're into that sort of thing. The Fort is very bike friendly, and there's plenty of looping roadways for a nice ride.

And there are signs that say no running/walking along the side of the road.
Are there signs? I've spent a lot of times on the Disney roads, and the only no walking/running sign I've seen is one on N Buena Vista.

It's always stuck me as odd that Disney seems to have a no-running on roads rule (at least that's what lots of DIS posters tell me) but keeps it a secret. It's not written down or posted anywhere. As contrasted to their no running on golf path rule, for which the put up tons of signs.

If they've started to put up signs, that would make sense. Where are there?

Oh, and as a side note - many of the roads within WDW are public county roads. They rules about walking and/or bicycling along them aren't set by Disney, but are the same as any other public road.

I agree, this is the best area for bike riding.

It looks like the OP is staying at BWV--the only bikes I've ever seen on the Boardwalk/Beach Club loop are the Surrey bikes. No individual ones--I think this could be a very dangerous situation for pedestrians.

If that were the case, then Disney would not be able to prohibit bicycling in the roadway, nor running/walking within the right-of-way. Aside from limited-access freeways (i.e., high-speed roads with on/off ramps), there are no roadways where biking is illegal.

This is one reason that a trip in cooler weather to WDW always includes a visit over to WL/VWL to rent bikes to ride over to and around FW. It's one of my favorite things to do at WDW!

That does sound like fun.

boettj We have often come to Disney and thought the same thing. Our answer was that my husband, Caskbill, found an electric scooter that we could collapse and put in the trunk. It was a bit on the expensive side....but the battery comes out and the scooter was light enough to carry up steps and into the unit to plug into electric at night. Caskbill use to ride to Downtown Disney and I would walk and we'd set up a meet time. This gave both of us the avenue for mobility. We did also bring bicycles to Ft. Wilderness when our children were smaller and did the bike path around part of the lake. However, as stated, there is no shoulder on Disney streets...so you either walk on the sidewalk or in the parks. Me--I sort of speed walk so I get my exercise that way. Good luck. CaskPeg

If you have your own bikes and if it was safe enough it would be fun to go at least in twilight (the rental bikes have to be back) and see how the camping people decorate their motor homes for Halloween/Christmas. They are good to see in the daylight, many have the snowglobes on and the lights on, but I imagine some of the sites rival what you see at the Osborne Lights!

We will be at OKW this March and I think we will have lots of extra room in our Van so we are bring our bikes. Look forward to using them on short trips to DD.
