Anyone been upgraded from POR to OKW/SSR?

Been reading other forums and this week a few people seem to be getting letters from Disney.co.uk offering free upgrades from POR/POFQ to a choice of OKW/SSR either a studio or 1 bed villa(no idea why anyone would choose a studio if offered 1 bed at same price) The letter states DDP stays at QS.

Anyone on here got the letter?

I would have thought it fairer to upgrade us already booked studios 1st then give the studios to POR/POFQ reservations but thats obviously too complex for Disney to sort out

Agreed. Not sure their methods are completely fair. Is this US guests or Disney UK guests? Just wondering if it has to do with the fact that all four of those resorts (with the 42%) were coming in at roughly the same price. I suspect that they have seen a bigger fall in bookings from UK guests than those in the US this year, not assisted at all by the flight prices.

BTW, I am assuming you are talking UK by your reference to the QSDP.

Yes its Disney.co.uk reservations for UK guests.
Just read another thats got a letter offering upgrade from Caribbean Beach Resort so not just PO.

This sounds very unfair. I agree that existing studio bookings should be upgraded first and forthmost.

Disney unfortunatley do things that are unfair. Like the free DDP and 42 % off at OKW/SSR, totally unfair to the DVC owners, great for us but not so good for the people who have given $1,000's for their points.

We have had a letter offering the upgrade, we are booked into FQ, I have requested a 1 bedroomed villa at OKW or Saratoga but I don't want a studio I will stay at FQ if that is the case.

Pretty futile unfortunately.

To be "fair" those at OKW and SSR paid about the same as the mods but got free DDP instead of QSDP. Now I am actually more on the side that disagrees with this, as I do believe that you should be happy with what you book.

I also think that someone with a studio at OKW/SSR should get first options of a 1 bed villa. THEN, if there are any leftovers, they can be offered to other guests.

Just for the record, if I were to be offered an upgrade to one of those two resorts I would decline as I specifically wanted POFQ for this trip, so one less room to be fought over.

I am curious though: Does there appear to be any sort of system applied to who gets offered and who doesn't or is it like a lottery thing? And do you think they are running short on space at the mods with open accommodation at OKW/SSR? I ask this because there are a few threads on the resorts board/discounts and rates board about mods being fully booked for some people's dates.

Life aint fair, nor is Disney. Same thing goes for WDTC USA offering free upgrades for those booked at values with free dining to OKW and SSR for the last couple of years.

I can totally understand Disney doing this, as you already said; it's more work to make things "fair". Why go through the hassle of rebooking 2 big groups, if you can make the room you need by going through the hassle of rebooking 1 big group (only those booked at PO)? Makes a lot more sense to do the latter when looking at it from economics pov.

Besides, those booked at PO might be suckered into staying DVC after such an upgrade. Read; more bucks for Disney. Those already booked at DVC are hooked already, less bucks to be had.

When you going? just read its possibly for travel between 3rd September and 2nd October.
Their very quiet time, possibly not affecting us booked for August.

If no-one is being offered in August I won't be emailing but I might be tempted if August travellers are being offered the option.
I doubt it will make the slightest difference to them if we do email but you have every right to if you are not happy about it.

Totally agree with what you say.

It certainly looks like PO is the resort that is been offered the upgrades, not sure why but I won't be bothered too much if I don't get it as I am more than happy with FQ.

The resorts board has been reporting for awhile that papers have been filed for refurbishments at port orleans, maybe the hotels are now overbooked as blocks will be going down for rehab?

Has the same thing, kinda. We had 2 rooms at CBR (our pref. mod) and it took a 2 bedroom before we were willing to make the change. Just 2 adults, but as you can guess we like our privacy.

Disney never does these bigger things because they are being generous. Something is going on, they are wanting to make room at PO. We see the same thing happening during free dining. Too many folks want a value with free dining, if not available; they won't book anything apparently. So WDTC USA will upgrade a fair amount of those folks to OKW/SSR, making more room for others to book a value with free dining. As SSR and OKW are pretty big with a nice amount of rooms and villas (and not idiotically overly in demand like some other dcv resorts), it gives Disney the best space to move around with. They've probably done the and decided it's more money made to have 2 families book into a cheaper category and offer a free upgrade to one, than have only one cheaper cat. booking and a free dcv studio/villa.

True! Another option we've seen in the recent past that caused Disney to move folks, including free upgrades.
