Thinking about visiting Vero Beach this summer and wondering what is there to do other than go to the beach.

I used to go there w/ my church youth group to this campground. Among other things, they had horseback riding. THough this place may not be the best for you and your family (it as a christian campground aimed at youth groups for weekend retreats and such.) I know there are other options for horseback riding in the area. If that is up your alley, anyway.

There is not much else there as far as I know, but it is not too far from the Space Center. That could be a day trip while you were there.

I was there last Spring for the first time. I thought it was a terrific place, very relaxing.

The beach is wonderful. In the late Spring and parts of the Summer you can take guided tours to watch sea turtles nesting on the shores. Vero is a major turtle nesting location.

One day I went kayaking through parts of the waterway nearby. There's tons of wildlife to observe including Dolphins, Gators and birds of all kinds. One pod of Dolphins swam right by our boats.

I also visited a botanical garden not far from the Resort I was staying at. It's a self guided tour through a lovely garden with many species of plants and trees.

Another night I went to Dodgertown, the Spring Training facility for the LA Dodgers AAA ball club. I watched a game between the Vero Dodgers and the Tampa Yankees. Tickets were $4 and you could buy hot dogs, a small beer or a soda for $1 each! It was great.

I also ventured off to visit the Manatee Center, an orange grove and much more. There are lots of great restaurants too, one being the Ocean Grill which is right on the beach.

Check the DVC Board for more information also since one DVC Resort is in Vero (where I stayed).

I have been to Disneys Vero Beach resort on 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and if all goes well 2004.

We go to Vero after a week of Disney. We have never eaten out while at Vero (we have a kitchen in our villa). The pool is nice but and has a great slide. I spend most of the time on the beach.
There is a spot to play miniture golf. A walkway under the highway takes you to Disneys veros Beach resorts Tennis courts, basketball courts, a lake for fishing ( I am not sure if anyone can just fish there) and who knows what else. The resort also has events like turtle walks, croque, cell painting, art day, smores campefire which starts with a singalong and then smores after by the pool. There is many many activities like those mentioned . DH and I spend most of the time at the beach and do not want to leave to go anywhere.

We do just the opposite when we stay by going there before our WDW trip to destress from our busy home schedules so we might enjoy WDW more.

We hang by the pool and beach for a couple of days. Have driven the area. Now that our DSs are older we enjoy The Green Cabin Room (bar/lounge). We would not take our kids there when they were younger.

We've gone walking around Sebastian Inlet Park observing the Intercoastal water fishers and kids beach surfing. Our 2 DSs (19/24 this year) have enjoyed the hafl-day fishing charter offered by Captain Gus and are reserved to go again when return in May.

Can I get more info on that fish trip? Where do you sign up and what is the cost?

Where did you go kayaking. Is this the one that Disney offers?

Thanks Tigger

This was the trip that Disney offers. It went through parts of the intercoastal waterway. We were out for about 3 hours with a snack break. The boats were from a kayak tour company in the area and you can book directly with them. If I can find my info packet I'll post more stuff.

For military buffs, the US Navy SEALS museum is just down the road in Ft. Pierce.

There are some outlet malls nearby.

Plus everything mentioned above. We loved it there, and hope to get back there in the not to distant future.
