anyone been to Santa Barbara recently?

looking for hotel help.

we are starting to plan a trip there for next summer for my 20th reunion. I haven't lived there in years, haven't even visited in 10 or 12 years, and then I would just stay with friends. this time around dh is coming and has horrible allergies to cats and dogs which pretty much lets my friends homes out. this is a big trip for us, first without the kids and the first alone time we have spent together in a long time, well, since our first son came 2.5 years ago and the twins this past march.

but I digress...

not sure if we want to do it up and stay in SB proper near the beach, or economize and stay in Goleta.

Any recommendations? Its funny, there are so many hotels there but I know nothing about which is good or bad.

I bet it was great living in Santa Barbara! My husband and I stayed there in May at a place called Cabrillo Inn at the Beach (http://www.cabrillo-inn.com/). It is certainly nothing fancy, but cheaper than most SB lodging and very clean. It's across the street from the beach and they are currently advertising $119/night. Good luck finding a hotel and enjoy your trip!
