The title kind of sums it up. We are platinum Disney cruisers but want to try something new for 2018 spring break. Looking at the Oasis class for Royal but I do always think the NCL Getaway also looks like an amazing ship. Anyone been on both that can comment on which one you really enjoyed more. We will have a teenager and a nine-year-old.
Thanks in advance!

I have done Allure, Getaway, and Escape. I didn't really look at the children's programming much between the 3. When we sailed Allure our kids were teens so in the teen club. Neither were all that thrilled with it, though. They've had hit or miss similar experiences on DCL so I wouldn't say that's a tick against RCI's kids clubs. I think the overall vibe depends a lot on the kids in the groups on any given sailing. They didn't go with us on Getaway. On Escape they were both 18+ so they pretty much hung out with us. In bars frequently. LOL!

That's hard. I would think the deciding factors would be balancing shows against things to do. The shows on Getaway & Escape are more limited + the big production will have adult undertones. They don't have many shows, either. On Oasis you get a better, more varied selection of shows and more of them overall. Then there's the things to do. Oasis will have rock climbing, mini-golf, flow rider, carousel, zip line + pools. Getaway has water slides, ropes course (SO fun!), mini-golf, zip line (on ropes course), + pools. Oasis will have Dreamworks characters. NCL has eliminated their contract with Nickelodeon characters so no more Sponge Bob fun. With the free at sea promo on NCL the bars/nightlife felt more prominent to me. Maybe that's just me, though.

Personally, I feel like RCI's product is better for a family with younger children wanting to do family-oriented things. NCL's product was an excellent fit for our family when our boys were aged-out of youth programming because we could sign waivers and they could drink beer and have a little guided intro to night-life. If that makes sense. Plus, the adult nature of the main production show was not a problem because they've surely seen & heard worse by now.

We did both. Went on the Getaway with 5 kids (family reunion) and on the Oasis with my then 6 year old daughter who deemed that her favorite ship ever and begged me to go back. With a 9 year old and a teenager I think the Oasis is better. The shows are definitely more family friendly and better than on NCL. Food evens out. The pools on Oasis are so much better and MORE of them! All the different areas on Oasis make it fun to explore. The flow rider, rock climbing wall, zip line, etc. are great for kids the ages of yours. There just didn't seem like there was enough to do on NCL with kids especially at night. I've put NCL on hold for a bit. My daughter (now 7) and I are doing a mother-daughter cruise on the Allure in a couple of weeks and we can't wait!!

I have been on the Oasis a couple of times and the Breakaway (Getaway's sister ship) a couple of times. My wife and I personally like the Oasis better because we like the space, but our kids (boys, 9 and 7) love the kids club on the Breakaway. We have done many Disney and Royal Caribbean cruises, but the only times our kids ask to go to the kids club and don't want to come back is on Norwegian. I think they kids staff is just outstanding.

You need to decide what is important to you. The Getaway limits the pool space to add things like slides and the ropes course. If pools are important to you, then you may want to consider the Oasis. If you want sit at the bar and get a drink next to the ocean, the Getaway allows you to do that.

Both are good ships, just different.
