Anyone been in Myrtle Beach during "Black Bike Week?"

I just found out the dates I'll be in Myrtle Beach coincide with Black Bike Week. Apparently this is what I have to look forward to:

Here Is What I Really Want To Know..How Are The Women?
If you can imagine 175,000 sexy women, in teeny tiny bikinis, "droppin it like it's hot" on the back of a bike, then you should have an idea.

And What About The Men?
Ladies...can you imagine 175,000 men on the hottest bikes in the country ready to give YOU a ride? If you love men on bikes and love to have fun, you wont find a larger gathering of professional chocolate men ready to show you their engines.

Are there going to be bikers all over the place?? Am I going to be seeing ladies in teeny tiny bikinis "droppin' it like it's hot" everywhere?

Anyone have any experiences? All I know of bikers is what I've seen in the movies, so bear with me.

Hi,

I live in Myrtle Beach and all I can say about Black Biker Week, is that most locals try and leave town over that time period. Between traffic and the lewd and crude behavior, it's definitly not a family atmosphere.

Hope this helps.

We were down there during regular Bike Week one year. What bothered me was the loud motorcycle noises "all night long". I'm a light sleeper when I'm away from home and I didn't get much sleep that week.

I made the mistake on showing up during black bike week by mistake. I saw:

Sex on the street
Several drug deals going down
Topless women on bikes with thongs
Too many fights to count

All this on the main drag in myrtle beach in plain view of everyone. Not all the bikers were like this but enough of them were present to stop me from ever returning at this time!!

We were there during Bike Week but we were staying at a golf resort and spent most of our time golfing. We only went to the main drag once and the streets were crowded and people just sitting outside their hotels or on their balconies eating, talking, etc. I am sure much worse was going on but we just drove through the area and left.

we went there accidentally durning black bike week. It was AWFUL, it was so crowded you had to walk everywhere you wanted to go because traffice was the worse, people well yelling and screaming hey baby at me just while my hubby and i was trying to walk somewhere for dinner.

I could keep going on, but i'm not. I will never ever do that again

p.s. my hubby and i both own sportbikes, so its not like were against sportbike. he also works on them for a living. so that might give you an idea on how bad it was for us.

Never been there during that time myself, but I do have a dear friend who lives in Myrtle. According to her, and I have no reason to doubt her, there are shops that will actually close for that week - they can't afford to open their doors to the theft and vandalism. If your desire is to offer your children sex education in "real-time", this is the time & place to go. :sad2:

We have been once during this time. We stayed away from the main 'drag'. I don't usually go to the Pavilion area anyway. Having spent a lot of my college weekends there and having friends that lived there we were able to use back roads to get where we were going. That being said I would never intentionally go back during this week.

If you still go be prepared for it to be wild on OD. If you can avoid it please do.

I've lived a sheltered life, so what does

"droppin it like it's hot"

really mean?

We have a condo in MB and so we've been during Black Bike Week a few times. Maybe it's cause our condo is on the very north end of Myrtle and we rarely go to the Pavilion are, but we've never had a problem at all. The beaches were all fine and so were all the restaurants we ate in. We saw a good number of the bikers on the road, but that didn't bother us at all. We have heard from a few locals though that they do plan their vacations for this time, but again, we never had any bad experiences. We've even had bikers renting the condo next door to ours and aside from a little loud music (nothing unbearable, just that you could hear the base if you sat in the room that shares a wall with the other condo) no trouble. I guess it just depends on where you will be staying as to how much it will affect your trip.

Oh NO! Just my luck.

This is my first "real" vacation in years. We are staying at the Staybridge Suites away from the beach and it's kind of pricey so hopefully we wont have any bikers staying there. There's no way I can change the dates, as I've already got my plane tickets and reservations. :( I like to party, but parting with a bunch of bikers just isn't my thing. I just wanted to have a nice time at the beach not be with a bunch of bikers! :furious: I just pray it's not too bad. This is definitely going to be an interesting trip.

Does Myrtle Beach have a good police force or should we bring some pepper spray or something? Is there a part of the beach that's less crowded? Should we head north or south (beach wise)? I am so mad at myself for not checking -- I thought Bike Week was done by the time we got there, I had no idea they have a seperate Black Bike week. Unfortunantely my hotel rate was an advance purchase rate and is nonrefundable :sad2:.

Yes go to he beaches in the north or south (Surfside). You should be fine. Just be prepared for crowded roads and have patience.

I have been during regular Bike Week, but not Black Bike Week. I love cycles, so I didn't have a major problem with it. It is loud and crowded, however. It makes Ocean Avenue a big parking lot. Well......a bigger parking lot than usual.

I heard Harley's being fired up at 2:00 a.m., I saw lots of thongs ......including some on people I really didn't want to see thongs on..... :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

But there are so many other places to go other than just cruising the strip. You will still have LOTS of fun!! I LOVE Myrtle Beach!!

the hotel we got on the beach was the edgewater for one night we had to pay over 300.00 anight

What is "the strip?" Apparently 60 BLOCKS of "Ocean Blvd." are turned into a one way, with NO turn offs so once you're on your're stuck? Sounds awfully dangerous to me.

Does anyone happen to know from what street to what its blocked off? Ocean Blvd. goes for a long stretch so I'd like to mark on my map which streets are going to be closed so I can find other restaurants to go to, although apparently many of them just shut down? Lovely.

I have been during bike week two years ago, it was not pretty, the traffic was horrible, to much of a party for this family !

Keep in mind that some of the reports are exaggerated by people with an agenda. Skimpy clothes turns itno nudity. Making out turns into sex in the streets. A couple arrests turns into a crime spree.

I absolutely agree. When we were there, we did not see anything that outrageous. Sure, there was skimpy clothes, making out, and all that. But it wasn't a wild, drunken, drug-infested orgy.

I don't recall Ocean Blvd being blocked off at all. When I said earlier that it was a "parking lot", I was merely being facetious. Traffic just comes to a crawl. But unless you want to cruise, you shouldn't be affected by it. If you want to go to the beach, just do some research as to where to park, and then just walk to the beach.

But there are other things aside from the beach to do. Outlet Malls. Broadway at the Beach. Barefoot Landing. Shows. Mini Golf.

At night, the bikers are going to be in clubs or cruising the strip. Most of the bikers aren't going to go to Barefoot Landing or Broadway at the Beach (although there will be some).

And one last note.......BE SURE to take a drive down to Murrell's Inlet and have dinner at T-Bones (not TBonz with a z). Best ribs I've ever had!!!

You asked about heading north or south to get away from the madness. Yes, there are some very nice "family" beaches away from Myrtle where bikers wouldn't be caught dead! Unfortunately, you just won't be able to get there for the snarled traffic. I agree with another Diser who mentioned Broadway at the Beach as well as the outlet malls. I'd seek out places that bikers wouldn't find "cool". :teeth:

We have been there several times during the time you are talking about. Never had a problem. Everyone we ran into was very nice. We do not hang out near the pavillion area. No particular reason, we just never seen to make it over there. I always seem to spend to much time shopping at Barefoot Landing or Broadway @ the Beach.

We usually stay in the S. MB area or N. MB area. Take a map with you to navigate the "backway" to different things. That will help a lot. Traffic in the heart of the "tourist strip" is awful anytime during busy season.

Everywhere you look these days someone is wearing something they shouldn't be. It doesn't matter how tall, short, thin, fat, or what age they are. It is an across the board problem. I am short & fat & still amazed at the # of girls/women my size wearing something designed for a size 4/6. Just because they make it in the big size, does not mean it should be worn in that size.

If you stop & think about it, it doesn't matter what color someones skin is regarding the behavior that has been mentioned. I have seen the same thing & worse from people of all walks of life.

Just relax & have fun. If you start your trip positive it will be bad for the reason you started this thread, you most likely won't have much fun. Again, relax & enjoy your vacation!! :sunny: Hope you have a great time!

Sorry for the rant. This was just my .02 cents, no :furious: :furious: please.
