anyone been afraid of normal things?

Butterflies do have a disturbing, unpredictable flight pattern. I totally get that, but moths are way worse! They're like evil, dirty butterflies.

You are the first to understand; thank you. Even hubby doesn't understand, though he's sympathetic and empathetic, considering his sunflower (aka "alien flower") issue.

The most bizarre part? Moths actually do NOT bug me. Very very weird.

This is not a normal thing:
I have a fear of the back of my ankle being cut ever since watching Pet Cemetary. Darn you Stephen King. I still love his books and movies.

OH I had a combo with that one!

Watched and read that story, very very scary idea.

Then one day in the 90s I went to see that movie about the lions in India...Ghost and the Darkness, or something like that? And it was the first time I'd ever been at a theater with surround sound, and oh boy did that movie make use of it! You could hear the lion/grass moving sound all around. I had my feet UP on the seat in front of me (it was a matinee, almost empty, I do not know what I would have done if it had been full), because I was SURE that a lion claw was going to swipe my feet off from under the seat.

Awful!

If I have my hair long enough, I have to have some hair over my ear in order to fall asleep. Strangely, when that's impossible b/c I've cut my hair short, I don't need it!

Mine is our basement I will not go down there at night because I always feel like I am being watched or follwed as I come back up the stairs. It creeps me out even if all the lights are on.

What is the bloody mary game?

I am afraid of escalators, depending on how they are set up, I might go up, but I can't get down. I was once stuck on the second floor of macy's for 2 hours because I couldn't get on the escalator, elevator was broken, there were no stairs I just kept walking around and around. Finally I asked a sales lady how you got down if the elevator was broken, she said you poor thing, took my hand and brought me down the escalator... not to embarassing. Spiral stairs, ever since I was little, can't do them.

and for the record, I refuse to watch scarey movies.....or read Stephan King,

I've had a fear of holes and small clusters of holes (like beehives) for a long time. I can't stand the way dictionaries with the indentations on the side look. :scared1: Apparently I have trypophobia.

I am terrified of ladybugs. Yep, ladybugs. It's the fact that they could be crawling on you and you wouldn't even know it. I know ants, ticks, canker worms could do that too but it's ladybugs that freak me out. Even seeing one flying around freaks me out. It could fly over and land on you and you wouldn't know. You could walk around all day with a ladybug just sitting in your hair and you'd be none the wiser. :scared1:

ETA- I looked it up and the official name for it is Coccinellidaephobia So, good luck pronouncing that LOL

:3dglasses
Great, now I'm afraid of hands grabbing me in various places. :)

I've been afraid of butterflies since a particular page in a little golden book. They just fly way too strangely. Dragonflies I can handle, but I avoid butterflies.

DH has always been afraid of sunflowers, and it only got worse when his brother (9 years older) lopped off the head of one and put it on DH's pillow while he was sleeping, a la The Godfather. I guess DH freaked out pretty bad.

And then...we had a garden wedding in August. Strange, that.

I'm sorry but I find that Godfather reference hilarious!!! Your DH can laugh at me though because I get the heebie jeebies from windchimes. Ugh! Evil, evil windchimes...

I am also afraid of watching my kids on the swings. I feel sick to my stomach watching them. As a matter of fact, just typing this makes me queasy. Crazy...

I am afraid of the dark. I sleep with a night light every night or closet light on...I'm almost 32 years old...sooo pathetic.

I am especially afraid to be outside at night...the reason...I panic thinking a zombie is coming for me. Zombies are my biggest fear!! what if the government really comes up with an expirement for zombies??????

I also check the toilet before using it. One time at a friends house in high school, right before I sat down, I happened to look at the seat and one of those GIANT cockroaches came crawling out....OMG can you imagine if that thing had crawled on my pootie poo...I would have died right there!!

I forgot to mention this about my need to be covered up and tucked at night. I must have the cover up and covering my neck so no vampires can bite me

Me too!!!! Ever since I saw an episode of "Gilligan's Island" as a kid where Gilligan slept with a scarf on so the vampire bat would not bite him. Still to this day must have my neck and arms completely covered by the blankets before I can go to sleep.:rotfl:

Haven't read the whole thread, but I'm afraid of balloons. Pretty sad.

More common than you would think. That is actually my #1 "crazy" fear. Do NOT bring a balloon near me. Seriously.

I am terrified of elevators! I will not ride them, period. I believe the door won't open and I'll never get out:scared1: There will be a fire or some kind of evacuation and I'll still be in the elevator waiting for help and everyone will leave me :rolleyes1 (wonder how a therapist would analyze that one )

:rotfl2:You are not alone. I was at the hospital a couple of weeks ago and as I walked toward the elevator, there was a lady standing across from it waiting. When I got there she asked if I was riding it. She said she has a fear of them and can't ride alone.

Mirrors at night
Open closet doors at night
(Realistic) dolls or (any) clown dolls at ANY time!

Terri

I hate the closet doors too because it seems that if you really look at them, they start to move. It scares me everytime. :rotfl2:

I'm not a fan either because I am afraid that someone will get choked on it. I hate to have them around the kids. I don't like the loud noise when they pop either.

I told him. He didn't giggle, but I think he smiled. :)

I recommend NOT signing them up for gymnastics classes if swinging causes that. OMG what was I thinking...:headache: [Please oh please let him lose interest in gymnastics, focus on swimming instead...but oh no NOT diving!]

"It" lives in sewer grates *shiver* "We all float down here, Georgie"
:scared1:

If a magazine has a picture of someone's face on it, at night I have to keep it turned over so "they" can't look at me.

Mirrors at night . . . definitely. And I'm really afraid of knives when I'm unloading them from the dishwasher -- like THAT is going to be the prime time that I'd be cut by one. :scratchin

That was SO not nice of his brother . . . but I couldn't help giggling just a bit because it was pretty creative. But still not nice at all.

I can see where you're coming from on that one. I'd better get off of this thread quick before I pick up more phobias.

Last post on this for the night I promise.

I cannot sit at a desk or a table that has me with my back facing a nearby doorway or a main walkway. When I was in fifth grade I sat by the classroom door (it was in the back of the room) and a kid came through the door swinging a baseball bat, which ended up hitting me in the back of the head. I never saw it coming.

Ok, mine are (in no particular order!)

Clowns (Thanks to IT)
Oompa Loompas
Rutger Hauer
Fuzzy Felt
Pigeons
