anyone been afraid of normal things?

Mirrors at night
Open closet doors at night
(Realistic) dolls or (any) clown dolls at ANY time!

YAY a thread I started has a lot of pages and it isn't people jumping on each other LOL....:lmao::dance3::cheer2:

This is not a normal thing:
I have a fear of the back of my ankle being cut ever since watching Pet Cemetary. Darn you Stephen King. I still love his books and movies.

I'm glad I'm not alone in the mirrors at night thing. I don't so much mind them if the lights are on (like if I go to the bathroom at 2am) but more if it's in a dim room. I think it is a fear from the bloody mary game. I don't like having my feet off the bed either, my brother grabbed me from under the bed once and I've been terrified ever since. I'm better these days, but just a couple of nights ago my cat reached out and grabbed me from under the bed. Freaked me the eff out.

Oh, and when I was a kid.. I was afraid of Jello.

I have a lobster issue (see tag). Bad enough that I spent a ton of money on therapy. The therapist got my money but I got to keep the phobia, lucky me.
I can't even look at a picture of one.

Mirrors...reminds me of Bloody Mary at slumber parties!

Same here. I will not look into a mirror at night. I also have to hop in the bed quickly after I turn out the light. I have the irrational fear of something reaching out from under the bed and grabbing my leg.

I'm deathly afraid of raccoons....is that weird??:confused3

I've never had an actual scary incident with a raccoon, but I've been afraid of them ever since I used to live in the city. They were so big and gross and we used to see them going through the trash can outside and hanging out on our back porch in the middle of the night-eww!:scared: If I see one now, I just start to shake & freak out:scared1: I just hate raccoons!

Umbrellas, they flip me out...:confused3 Specifically open umbrellas. I can remember going down the side walk going to pick DD up from school when it was raining and nearly having a panic attack. I do not own one and will not stand underneath one, even if it's pouring.

I also check the toilet before I sit down on it.

My DBIL had an umbrella phobia, too! I don't know if he ever got over it, but you are not alone!

I forgot to mention this about my need to be covered up and tucked at night. I must have the cover up and covering my neck so no vampires can bite me, and my feet must be covered so no one can cut my feet off while I sleep. This last one comes from an old Night Gallery episode that has never left my memory in 40 years.

Thanks for this one, for years I finally got that one out of my head...now it's baaaaccckkk! I am rubbing my ankles now...I'll be thinking of you until I can forget about it again!;)

Ladders, tinfoil and clowns. I don't know what I was watching as a child?

I have always been afraid of the toilet??? I don't know why I just keep think a hand is going to reach up and grab me...:lmao:

please tell me I'm not the only one that is afraid of normal things and turn it in to weird...

That is hysterical....I have the same fear! Automatic toilets cause me anxiety (especially if the flush is off). I also cannot go on black toilet seats....not sure why. I can go forever without going due to this fear.

Don't ever admit to this in psychology class....they had a field day with me!

:rotfl:

I'm afraid of "something" creeping up under my covers!!! I have to have my comforter or blanket tucked under me in order to sleep. I think certain horror films did that to me, "The Grudge" in particular for sure!

I also am freaked out by stairs with spaces in between. EEEK!

Great!!! I was only scared of spiders & heights, but after reading this thread, I'm now also afraid of mirrors, toilets & under the bed monsters!!!!!!:scared1:

:lmao::rotfl2:

I hate mirrors in the dark too. They freak me out!

Balloons scare the crap out of me. Don't bring them near me!

Also biscuit cans. Not sure what that one is about. My DH has to open them for me. What's really strange is my brother has the same fear. We decided our mom must have beat us with biscuit cans when we were kids and we have repressed the memory. :rotfl2:

Me too! I thought that I was the only adult who gets their kids to open the cans for me1:lmao:

ALSO, I'm afraid of the basement-

We moved into a 25 year old house last fall. The husband of the seller died in the house last winter. The seller was a really nice older lady. She said that she couldn't bring herself to stay in the house alone and after her DH died, she never stayed in the house at night alone again- she moved in with her daughter. You'd think I would have gotten a clue!

So, the basement door will not stay closed, but when I close it and watch, I can see and hear the latch catch.

Yesterday after everyone one was off to work and school, and the 4 yo was still asleep, I went down into the basement to do a load of towels and the door shut on me- it creeks and squeaks when you open or close it.

It took every bit of nerves that I had to go up the basement stairs to the closed door to open it and face what ever was on the other side.

I HAD to go upstairs because the toddler was upstairs!

I will not be doing anything in that basement when I'm home alone ever again!

I'm thinking of buying a hook/eye latch to make sure it stays open when I'm down there! :rolleyes1

When I turn off the lights I run like crazy and jump at my bed. For two reasons:
1. Once the lights are turned off, something is right behind me is trying to eat me.
2. something is under my bed and will attempt to grab my legs.
Well at least that's what my imagination makes up
:)

I am terrified of mirrors at night. I actually made DH remove the mirror in the bedroom because I couldn't sleep with it in here!

Yes to both of the above and also basements! I freaking hate going down in my mom's basement it scares the crap out of me and she also has the stairs that have no backs so something could grab me as I bolt up the stairs!! :rolleyes1

Daydreamer, basements freak me out too! I had a double whammy one time when I visited my grandmother. I went down to her creepy basement and saw a large puppet on the couch. :scared1: It was one of those huge, dummie things, straight out of a horror movie.

:lmao::rotfl: Did it raise up and look at you?:scared1:
