A dog licked my son over his face & neck. DS loved it but almost immediately started itching. As soon as we got home he washed his face. You know it's bad when a 10 yr old boy wants to wash his face! :rotfl2: Within 5 minutes his face & neck was covered in welts and itching worse. He even let me wash his face again with soap! I gave him Benadryl and ensured that his breathing wasn't affected. It helped & he's sleeping now. Only the area that the dog actually licked welted up. Anyone ever experience this?

I love dog kisses. :goodvibes I do wonder if its not from the dog, but what the dog last licked, such as poison ivy or something like that? I've never heard of regular dog kisses causing a break out, just lots of laughs from the receiver!! Good luck!

Oh yeah. Any animal saliva makes me break out in glowing hives that just radiate. I had a BF that doubted anyone's allergies could be "that bad". Then his lab kissed my cheek one day and he was convinced.

In our old subdivision, my neighbor's son was allergic to a dog's saliva. He was fine around dogs as long as they didn't lick him. He was okay at our house - our pooch doesn't lick, but she had to give him a benadryl before going to her SIL's house because their dogs are lickers. I hope your ds is fine tomorrow morning!

Wow, I have never heard of this allergy. Can you be allegic to people spit as well??

I am, and lucky for me, my puppy Dodger (the mostly white dog in my sig) is a wicked flirt and kisses relentlessly and without stopping. And he slobbers. It's vile. He is not shy, sometimes, he goes straight for the lips. :crazy2:

Then I just have to wash my face and it usually goes right away but it itches and is tight while he's in attack mode.

The smallest amount of animal saliva touching my skin makes me break out horribly itchy. Unfortunately, I love dogs, I just can't let them lick me. :dog2:

We were talking to a neighbor over this past weekend and their son has this same allergy. Sounds strange, but it can happen.

yup, I can't have dogs or cats licking me, especially around the face. Heck, I touch something my cat's touched and my nose and cheeks start itching.

I'm totally allergic to animal dander... and yet, I have a cat and while I can't touch the cat, she sure likes to touch me! :rotfl:

I think it's most common to be allergic to cat spit and dog hair, but people can be allergic to either on both of them. It's actually better if hives appear only where he was licked. You're much more likely to have a really bad reaction if you show symptoms in places you weren't touched.

if I say yes, will that mean the dog won't slober all over me? :dog2:

Sure, you can have an allergy to dog saliva - sometimes people are allergic to the urine, or dander, or hair, or saliva. It just depends on the person ;)

Poor guy!!!

Happens to my 10 year old too. Started with a cat at age 3, so we thought it was just cats. After we moved, he started spending lots more time with our Boston, and it happened with him too. They don't have to lick him.......just nuzzling can do it, but it's certain if he's licked.

We've just told him not to let them get by his face.

I do hope this doesn't mean it'll get worse. I'd like for him to have the joy of pets his whole life.

Yes but only certain dogs. My uncle and cousin have boxers and they kill me. My skin is horrible after they touch me.
They are the only dogs I have ever had that happen with.

My nephew, who is allergic to peanuts will sometimes have a reaction to a dog "kissing" him. They have noticed that it is because the dog has had a biscuit or dog food that contains peanuts.

Interesting. My son is allergic to peanuts. Maybe that's the connection. He's never reacted to dog kisses before.

Yes, I have. Not with all dogs, just a few but I really hate it. Mostly because there's no telling which one will set me off and I adore all dogs. I never want to turn down big sloppy wet kisses. :dog:

I always have this reaction to "new" dogs. When I first got my dogs, they would make me itchy if they licked me. Then it went away. But, if I go visit someone who has dogs, their dogs will cause me to be itchy when my own dogs don't.

Also, my son has a peanut allergy, but he does not seem to have the "dog kiss" allergy.

I actually have this itching if my Lab licks me, but not if the poodle does.

It really bothers me.
