Anybody use the essure method?

I am very nervous with this procedure and i have been looking for someone who has a tilted uterus. I was told i have one as well and I am looking to get the essure done. Is there any other complications that i should be aware of. I was told i need a sonogram done in order to see if the procedure would be difficult.

I had it done 3.5 years ago with no complications. My dr put me out for the procedure because I have a tilted uterus which made things more difficult and take longer. I have no regrets. If you have more specific questions, just ask and I'll do my best to answer them.

I was going to get Essure, but my OB/Gyn, who does the procedure all the time and thinks it is very safe, says I'm a LITTLE too young. I went with a Paragard instead. When I take it out, I'll be closer to 40, and can get Essure.

Irene21, I also have a tilted uterus, and was told that was fine.

I'm not at all comfortable with a Tubal. I know too many women, particularly women that have a hormonal syndrome that I have, that have had nothing but problems from heavy bleeding, to more bleeding, to severe hormonal issues.

I've only known 2 woemn with the same syndrome to have it done, both had it done more than 2 years ago, and both have not had any problems yet. I haven't done my own research into it, and it shouldn't really matter because DH is supposed to get snipped.

Dh went to get a vasectomy. He was outta the Dr's office WITHIN 20 minutes, and had no pain, and it was a success. OOP costs after insurance, $50.

I had this done. I experienced very heavy bleeding. I bleed for about one month following the proceedure. My doctor said that can happen on rare occurances.

After that I was okay for a few months with regular cycles. Then it got horrible. Bleeding was so bad. Too embarrassing but anyone considering this please PM me and I will give more details.

I ended up getting a hydrothermal ablation.

I would not recommend essure.

I agree with your husband getting the snip snip. My DH just had one and it was no big deal really. He just went back for the follow up and no swimmers It was a big uncomfortable for him for a day or two, but that's all..

I have had a Mirena iud for 4.5 years and loved it. I'll have that removed now that we're good to go, but I must say that I will totally miss having no periods at all since before I got pregnant with my 4-year old.

I have had a Mirena iud for 4.5 years and loved it. I'll have that removed now that we're good to go, but I must say that I will totally miss having no periods at all since before I got pregnant with my 4-year old.

How was the implantation for the Mirena for you? I am scheduled to get mine tomorrow (sorry if that's TMI). I am wondering what to expect.

From what I hear it differs widely from person to person. For me, personally, I had some minor cramping while they were inserting. I've heard some people say they were unable to drive home, but I had no problem with it. I had period level cramps for the next 24 hours or so tapering off and that was it. I had a lot of random spotting for the first couple of months. Never heavy though. Now, 6 months in, my periods are super light and I'm wondering if they'll eventually go away altogether. I'd definitely recommend it, haven't had any problems with it

For those of you who have decided against the Essure, what have you decided to do? I have a feeling that with my previous history (fibroids, multiple miscarriages and surgeries, etc) that I won't qualify or will have problems with Essure but I'm tired of taking birth control. My husband will not get snipped despite the 7 surgeries I went through so that we could have just 1 child. I can't do an IUD so my options are limited. Ideas please?

Thanks for the info. I am a little nervous. I know it was slightly off topic for the thread, but I really appreciate the info!

After the Mirena (and any other children if we opt to have them) DH is getting a vasc. It seems like the safest option and something we decided before we even got married. I have friends whose husbands won't consider the vasc, and are considering the essure. I thought it was really safe, I didn't realize the complications would be so severe.

Thought I would share.....

i went to the gyno miserable. I dealt with horrible periods and my hubby and I had finally decided for sure no more kids. I dealt with my period or pms symptoms for 3 weeks out of the month. (I too have had 2 miscarriages)
I will never forget my gyno saying - when will you decide you do NOT have to live like this?
Wow - wake up call for me.

My gyno does the Essure in office - but we were really wanting the ablasion procedure that could be done afterwards.
I had the Essure procedure. 3 months later had the dye procedure and the Essure was successful. Came in for the ablasion. Ablasion works on like 95% of patients or something.....it did not work on me. Within a few months, I was close to being the same. So, we then decided to take my uterus and cervix (my ovaries were fine).

My doctor had just became certified in the DaVinci hysterctomy and I was the first one done in our hospital. I heard later on the surgery room was packed. My recovery time was NOTHING. I was back to work in a week. People couldn't believe it. I had to be careful because I felt SO good!!!

So, I had 3 procedures in a year - but I am glad I tried to be careful and go the non-invasive route first.

What do I recommend? The Davinci hysterectomy. It has changed my life and my marriage. I can not tell you everyday how thankful I do not have to deal with what I was dealing with!!! Because I kept my ovaries, no hormones were needed.

Wow, your post sounds so positive now. I'm glad it worked out. But it also made me tear up a bit. My dad had the DaVinci for his prostate cancer. Odd to think that he and I could have the same type of surgery.

How about a diaphragm? It's an older method, but I've used it for 7 years and am very happy with it. It's cheap, easy once you get the hang of it, no side effects and immediately reversible (meaning, if you want more kids, don't put it in ). I don't know why this isn't more popular, and I had to mention it to the ob/gyn myself.

had this done in april of last year. Was fine the first two weeks or so but then I started to have pain that would not go away. Ends up I am allergic to nickel and the insert they use are nickel. So dont do it if you cant wear cheap earrings or have a nickel allergy. Ended up have to have a laproscopic hysterectomy because they can not remove the inserts once they are placed. To have them removed you have to have the tubes removed. All in all I am happy with the hysterectomy they left my ovaries so I have no periods and I dont have to take hormones. I would have to say dont do essure.

I didn't have this done, as I had a c-section w/ #2 and opted to have my tubes tied. But I wanted to comment on the heavy period comment.

I asked my OB about the claim of heavy periods and horrible cramping w/ a tubal. Mine are already BAD, and I didn't want worse. He told me that most of those complaints come from women who have been on BC pills for years. They don't remember what a normal period can feel like.

That made COMPLETE sense to me. And I went along with the tubal. It's been 1.5 years since I had it done, and no change from before I had it (I haven't taken BC pills in over 10 years).

Sorry I didn't respond to your post. I' m glad your insertion was fairly painless. I had no issues at all with mine, as a matter of fact I went shopping afterwards. At the time I had an infant who was breastfeeding and I think that was more uncomfortable for me than the insertion.

I know some men might flame me, but I think men who won't go through a vasectomy are unfair and irresponsible... It's not a big deal at all (says my husband). As a matter of fact, our relationship is so much better now that there is absolutely no risk of an accident occurring. Sure it took him 4.5 years to work up the courage to do it, but he did it & I'm thankful for it
