Lisinopril works great for so many people, and it is true that side effects are rare, but I would suggest that if, after you first start taking it you get bad stomach pains and diarhhea, stop taking it.
I have PCOS, was on YAZ to regulate hormones, it raised my BP, was given Lisinopril. I had the cough, then terrible stomach pains that night, and bad toiletting problems. I thought it was either the medicine or something I ate, and thinking I knew best and only the cough was related to the Lisinopril, stopped the medicine.
Before my next Dr. appt. 3 weeks later, I decided to take the Lisinopril again, and that night I had terrible vomitting and diarhhea. I dehydrated, had chills and sweats, and was in such pain that when my children found me the next morning curled up on the bathroom floor crying in pain, they called the ambulance. Turns out I was one of the very few that can not tolerate the class of drugs Lisinopril was in, and I reacted negatively to it.
On the bright side, the dehydration caused my blood to become so thick it revealed a blood clot in my kidney. I lost my kidney, but since the blood clot was brought on by the birth control pills, better to lose my kidney than have a heart attack. So in an odd way, the Lisinopril did do something good, revealing that I can never take hormones because they give me blood clots (and high blood pressure!).
So while the cough can be a nuisance, if stomach problems develop, talk to your doctor. Very few people have the reaction I did, but no one told me it was a possibility, but I know now that though rare, it can happen. Lisinopril works great for most, however!
