Anybody staying onsite ever go offsite to eat?

My favorite off-site restaurants are,

Bergamo's - Italian, similar prices as Alfredo's in Epcot, but not nearly as crowded. They have singing waiters that are actually really good. Its a fun place

Roy's - They say its Asian Fusion, but its really hawaiin style food. I guess it could be compared to Ohana's, but the food is far superior.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse - Excellent food. One of the best steaks I've ever had. But this place is A la Carte, so it can get a little pricey.

missypie,
Here is a link to the best offsite restaurants thread. It has several pages of people's picks for the best places to eat offsite:

My favorites:

Seasons 52 on West Sand Lake Road in the restaurant enclave. The food and service are excellent. Don't miss the mini-parfaits for dessert. YUM!

Sweet Tomatoes at the intersection of International Drive and Kirkman Road. Outstanding salad buffet.

Bubbalou's Bodacious Barbecue is our very favorite place for barbecue. The baby back ribs are to die for! And the prices are very reasonable too.

And don't rule out the Unique McDonald's in the Orlando area. Our favorite is the European Cafe McDonald's on Sand Lake Road. While the kids can get their favorite MickeyD's fare, you can order gourmet sandwiches (grilled grouper, perhaps??) The food was very good and the whole family was happy.

I've eaten at 3 different Golden Corrals...it wouldn't occur to me to eat at one for breakfast...I find that "buffet" and "breakfast" do not go well together...I don't care who prepared it.

Sizzler was pretty bad the one time I went there.

Key W. Kool's is very good but pricey.

There was another restaurant in the Crossroads that was very good and affordable.

Westgate Lakes has a very good restaurant called the Smokehouse Grill that's affordable.

I don't have a problem roaming offsite... Disney restaurants have to strike a balance between the cuisine they serve and the fact that they are dealing with people who may have consumed Americanized versions of food all their lives. Orlando is full of restaurants and you don't have to eat in a chain to save money...you can find good & unusual restaurants without resorting to chains. Plus there are tons of coupons out there just waiting for you to use them.

Keep in mind I have 3 children so I am talking about places to take kids to. The kids love Golden Corral by International, Boston Lobster Fest (yeah the food isn't that great but its all they can eat Lobster for $24.), CiCi pizza (once again its not that great but its all you can eat for $3.99), Sweet Tomatoes (All you can eat salad bar for about $7.00 per person), Kobies (they have great coupons and the kids love it when they cook the food in front of you). We always have a car, so we usually leave the park for our evening meal unless we are doing a chacter meal.

We even to to DTD when we stay offsite in Orlando and aren't doing WDW. However, we did like the Bahama Breeze when we ate there for the first time earlier this month. We also ate at the Chick Fillet that's not far from WDW.

Bobbi :flower:

Every trip we drive off-site to eat at Olive Garden (Crossroads?) and fill up since there isn't one within 30 minutes of home. This time I have $35 in reward gift certificates for OG so we will have a free meal!

We also ate at a great seafood place right down the road from OG on the right, end of the road (can see it from !-92 I think) and it was fabulous!

And Tu Tu Tango is fabulous but I'm not sure it will please young children.

Don't forget to check for coupons in the local brochures etc. We always try at least one new place using a coupon so if it's not so great we haven't lost as much money (ha ha).

Sweet Tomatoes is one place we always try to go to. It's different than anything we have in NJ.

We don't really eat offsite at any of the national chains. We have lots of them near here & don't eat at them!

We may have to try Sweet Tomatoes. Living in suburban Dallas, we have ALL the chains, so they are nothing special.

Maybe I didn't phrase my post clearly enough. I guess I was hoping that people would say something like, "XYZ Restaurant has a seafood buffet that we like a lot better than Cape May for 25% less, " or "Don't bother with the off site buffets...they cost less but nothing beats Chef Mickey's."

When you phrase it that way...

Kanpai over near Universal is WAY better then Teppanyaki at Epcot and costs A LOT less. We go here once each trip and usually hit the parks in the AM, go there for lunch, then hit the Belz Disney outlets for our "break".

I personally like Chevy's in the Crossroads more than San Angel Inn, and again it's cheaper.

We are not buffet people so can't help you with those.

I've stayed on and off site many times. And even when staying on site, we usually go off for lunch or dinner at least a few days of our trip. We have our favorites that we always try to hit, such as Kanpai. Crossroads really isn't that far (neither are many of the places on 192).
