I certainly hope your DD gets better, it's tough to be sick when everyone else is outside playing! Give her a cool washcloth to the forehead for me!
You know....most ALL viral illnesses include fevers as a symptom. Any virus can cause a fever, and I've read where school age children usually contract anywhere from 7-10 viral illnesses per year. Some are shorter lived than others, some stick around for almost a week, and then peter out.
104.3 seems like such a scary temp, but look at your child, not the thermometer. And, yes, when it's time for another dose of Motrin, her fever WILL be back up! People bring their children in all the time saying, "I gave Tylenol, and three hours later his temp is back up!" Well, yes. The Tylenol wore off. It is intended to reduce the discomfort of fever, not cure the illness. Until the virus or infection is gone, the fever will be there. Tylenol and Motrin alternated every three hours is what all the MD's I work with recommend.
Here's how to dose: For every 2 pounds ( or 2.2 pounds for you math purists) your child weighs, give 10mg of Motrin, and 15mg of Tylenol. For example, if she weighs 30 pounds, give her 150mg Motrin, or 150mg Tylenol. Motrin comes in 100mg/teaspoon, and Tylenol comes in 160mg/teaspoon. I know most people think that is too complicated, but kids come in all shapes and sizes, and what is on the box might not be right...dose by weight, and dose ON TIME! Don't wait an extra hour just because the fever isn't back up. Keep it away! A couple extra doses of Tylenol or Motrin will not harm her, and might help her make it through the recovery feeling a tad better too!
