Yesterday morning, I noticed that my kids hamster, Minnie Mouse, had managed to escape from her cago! I immediately closed all the doors to the house so she would be stuck in whatever room she was in. Then I emptied out all the closests (ugh!!) and didn't find her. I put small piles of food in each room of the house - if the food gets eaten, she can't be far away. Well, I noticed the food disappearing, but still no Minnie!! I left her cage on the floor with the door open overnight, but she isn't there this morning. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might catch this creature before our cat does!!!:earseek:

My dog would always find ours for us. :) She wouldn't hurt it, just let us know where it was.

What we were told to do is set up a trap. Have a ramp to something the hamster couldn't get out of and have food inside. Since you've been feeding it, it may take longer. I'd have one in each room. Goodluck.

Yeah, get one of those live traps. Let's hope she's not hiding in the walls!!

Open the top of the cage, take the wheel and anything she could climb on OUT. Put food in the cage and put it on the floor.

build some stairs with books. She'll go up the stirs, fall in the cage, eat and be unable to get out.

Works for me EVERY time!

ummmmm, mouse trap?

Anyone remember that song?

Good luck!! My daughter's hamster got out of its cage once, we never found it!! Never smelled it either, so to this day (this was 15 years ago, at least) we still don't know what happened to the poor little critter!! :(

The cat might point you in the direction you need to go. Listen in the dark?
I hope you find the little guy.

When Taffy used to get out of her cage, we would bait her exercise ball with food. Once she got in it, the side with the hole would be upward, and we could also hear the ball rolling so we knew she was in there.

Do you have an exercise ball?

Amid uses our foolproof technique...works with a bucket too but the cage is sturdier! Check your closets...that's where ours loved to hide. One got away one year when we were in WDW. She chewed the carpet down and chewed the closet door up to make a little tunnell to crawl into the closet...where we conveniently stored the food! Kept her safe from our 2 cats for 10days!! Didn't do much for our carpet and closet door though! Good luck!!!

Yes, I do have an excercise ball! I'll have to try that!!! I'll pick the cage up off the floor so she'll have no other source off food. I did notice after my girls got up this morning that there was a path of her litter in front of her cage. She must of gone into her cage during the night for food and water then came back out!

We used to do two things. One was that we would put a couple buckets laying on their sides on the floor with cut carrots in them. The next thing we would do is lay on the floor at night with flashlights. Since they are more active at night you are more likely to see them running around. Our hamsters escaped all the time but we always found them. My sister had a "bionic" hamster who used to escape with ten pounds of wieghts on the top of the cage. She was a bluish grey hamster with muscles the size of a body builder. Good luck!!!

My DD hampster will do anything to get out of her cage. The first time she got out we found her in the recycling box.

Wait until night time. Sit very very quietly and listen. They are nocturnal, so they will wake up at night time and you should be able to hear it moving around. GOOD LUCK!!
